The World Cup will start in Russia this June 14th and the 32 national teams are ready for this competition. However, teams do not only compete for the trophy which will make them world champions for the next four years. FIFA has assigned $791 million to be divided into the teams that are participating in this tournament. This number represents a 40% increase in the prize money that was given four years ago in Brazil. But how much will each team receive? This is the breakdown of prizes for the 2018 World Cup:
-The teams who assisted in this tournament and will not advance to the knockout round will receive $8 million dollars.
-The national teams who advanced to the round of 16 and will not qualify for the quarter finals will receive $12 million, whereas teams who qualified to the quarterfinals will get $16 million.
-The prize for the team who wins the fourth place is $22 million, and third place will get $24 million.
-The two teams who play the final will battle for the trophy and the $38 million the champion will receive, whereas the run-up will receive $28 million.
In addition, each team will receive $1.5 million dollars from FIFA to help the nations with all the expenses they have to prepare their teams for this tournament.
FIFA also announced there is a $209 million dollar fund which will be distributed to clubs who are lending their players to their respective national teams to be part of this competition. There is an additional fund of $134 million which was assigned to the Clubs Protection Program. This money is giving to the clubs who are having a lost due to injuries their players may carried during the time they were part of their teams.
The main goal for the players remains the same. They want to lift the trophy on July 15 in Moscow. Fans, on the other hand, are happily and anxiously waiting to see their nation to compete in the biggest stage of futbol this summer.
