Revolution II blow early lead, lose 4-1 to Huntsville City FC

SMITHFIELD, RI– New England Revolution II (11-6-8, 42 pts) were defeated 4-1 versus Huntsville City FC (9-6-9, 38 pts.). on Sunday afternoon.

The match kicked off at 7:00 p.m. ET at Beirne Stadium.

Forward Myles Morgan played a cross-field pass into the path of Marcos Zambrano, who got in behind the Huntsville defense and finished to give New England a 1-0 advantage.

Isaiah LeFlore had another opportunity in the 10th minute, but his effort from outside the box sailed over the crossbar.

In the 12th minute, Huntsville City forward Zidane Yáñez was shown a yellow card for a foul on Makai Wells.

Following a service into the area, Zidane Yáñez headed the ball past goalkeeper Donovan Parisian to level the match at 1-1.

Less than a minute later, Myles Morgan looked to restore New England’s lead, but his effort was denied by goalkeeper Will Mackay.

Isaiah LeFlore threatened again in the 28th minute, sending an effort from the left side of the box over the crossbar.

In the 29th minute, Marcos Zambrano was shown a yellow card for a hard foul on Charles-Émile Brunet.

New England had the next opportunity in the 34th minute when Cristiano Oliveira delivered a corner kick into the area, but Huntsville’s defense was able to clear the danger.

Prior to the start of the second half, Revolution II head coach Pablo Moreira made his first change of the match, replacing Tylon Smith with Schinieder Mimy.

New England opened the second half looking to immediately push forward and apply pressure in Huntsville City FC’s defensive third.

Charles-Émile Brunet had the first opportunity of the half in the 46th minute, but his right-footed effort from close range was blocked by Jake Shannon and cleared away.

Midfielder Charles-Émile Brunet played the ball forward into the path of Jordan Knight, who entered the box and slotted his effort into the bottom-right corner to give Huntsville City FC a 2-1 advantage.

In the 49th minute, Revolution II midfielder Logan Azar was shown a yellow card for a foul on Xavier Aguilar.

Azar had New England’s next opportunity in the 53rd minute, but his left-footed effort from outside the box sailed high over the crossbar.

Myles Morgan threatened in the 59th minute, sending a right-footed strike narrowly wide of the top-right corner.

After 90 minutes and three minutes of stoppage time, the final whistle sounded with Huntsville City FC securing a 4-1 victory over New England.
