Revolution Rally Past Philadelphia Union 2-1, Set Club Record With 6-0-0 Home Start

FOXBOROUGH, MA – New England Revolution (7-1-3, 22 pts.) earned a 2-1 victory over the Philadelphia Union (1-3-8, 7 pts.) on Saturday night.

The match kicked off at 7:30 p.m. ET at Gillette Stadium to a crowd of 18,561.

The match kicked off with New England controlling possession from the center circle and working the ball through midfield.

Luca Langoni had New England’s first chance in the 7th minute when midfielder Carles Gil found him entering the area, where he took a touch before firing a shot just wide of the left post.

Ezekiel Alladoh had a chance just three minutes later when his right-footed effort inside the box snuck just wide of the net.

Philadelphia had another opportunity in the 20th minute when an effort by Danley Jean Jacques was sent over the bar.

In the 30th minute, Bradley Carnell was forced into his first substitution, replacing injured defender Frankie Westfield with defender Olivier Mbaizo.

New England nearly got on the scoresheet just two minutes later when a headed effort from Will Sands snuck just over the crossbar.

In the 34th minute, Philadelphia Union midfielder Jovan Lukic was issued a yellow card for persistent infringement on midfielder Carles Gil.

Entering the 37th minute, Philadelphia Union took the lead.

New England Revolution defender Will Sands under-cut forward Milan Iloski and accidentally scored in his own net to make it 1-o to Philadelphia Union.

Jovan Lukic had another chance in the 45+1 minute when he sent his effort over the bar.

In the 45+2 minute, Phialdelphia Union midfielder Indiana Vassilev was issued a yellow card for two-hand shoving forward Dor Turgeman.

After the initial 45+5 minutes, the match entered halftime with Philadelphia Union ahead 1-0.

The second half kicked off with Philadelphia Union controlling possession from the center circle and working the ball through midfield.

Will Sands had the first chance of the half just one minute in when midfielder Carles Gil found him running into the box, though his effort was deflected out for a corner kick.

Ezekiel Alladoh had a massive chance in the 56th minute when his right-footed shot in the box went just over the bar.

Just two minutes later, New England Revolution defender Mamadou Fofana made a massive goal-line clearance by denying forward Ezekiel Alladoh in the 59th minute.

Entering the 61st minute, New England leveled the scoreline.

Following a poor corner kick that was recovered by midfielder Carles Gil, he played the ball to midfielder Luca Langoni, who drove across the box before unleashing a shot that snuck into the bottom right corner to make it 1-1.

Following the goal, both teams made substitutions. Bradley Carnell made two changes for the Philadelphia Union, bringing on Bruno Damiani and Agustin Anello for Ezekiel Alladoh and Milan Iloski. Marko Mitrović then made his first change for the New England Revolution, replacing forward Griffin Yow with forward Diego Fagundez.

Alhassan Yusuf had a chance in the 65th minute when his effort towards goal was blocked away and cleared.

In the 72nd minute, Philadelphia Union head coach Bradley Carnell made his final two substitutions of the match, replacing midfielders Malik Jakupovic and Cavan Sullivan with midfielders Alejandro Bedoya and Indiana Vassilev.

Peyton Miller had a fantastic chance in the 74th minute when his one-on-one chance was sent just wide of the right post.

In the 78th minute, Revolution head coach Marko Mitrović made his second change of the match, bringing on midfielder Matt Polster for midfielder Luca Langoni.

New England’s next chance came in the 83rd minute when a free kick from midfielder Diego Fagundez was sent into the area, flashed through the box, and was eventually cleared away.

In the 84th minute, Augustin Anello was issued a yellow card after dragging down Revolution forward Dor Turgeman.

Entering the 87th minute, New England took the lead.

Following a give-and-go between Matt Polster and Carles Gil, the ball was played through to forward Dor Turgeman, who teed it up for Gil to bury and give New England a 2-1 lead.

In the 90+1 minute, Revolution head coach Marko Mitrović made his final substitution of the match, replacing forward Dor Turgeman with defender Tanner Beason.

After 90+5 minutes, the match concluded with New England holding on to secure a 2-1 victory.
