Seattle Sounders FC 4-1 St. Louis City SC
SEATTLE, WA–Playing just their second league home game this season, the Sounders put on a show in demolishing St. Louis City SC, 4-1, at Lumen Field. The Sounder move to fourth in the West at 5-1-1 and 16 points while St. Louis slumps to 14th at 1-4-3.
The scoring began in the 22nd minute. Cristian Roldan headed in an Albert Rusnak corner from the back post while being criminally unmarked by St. Louis. St. Louis, twice bit on corners were later facing a penalty kick in the 49th minute after Paul Rothrock was tripped in the box by Conrad Wallem. Rusnak cooled converted the spot kick to make it 3-0. Roman Burki’s net continued to get peppered and was eventually breached for the fourth time in the 86th minute as Osage DeRosario slotted the past three defenders and Burki.
Eduard Lowen got a consolation goal for St. Louis in stoppage time, but it was of little consolation for St. Louis who are now 0-3-2 away from Energizer Park. Both teams are off midweek and home on Saturday. The Sounders host FC Dallas (7:30pm PT, Apple TV) while St. Louis will host San Jose (7:30pm CT, Apple TV).
