FC Dallas lose lead late to San Diego

FRISCO, TX–FC Dallas could not hold on to a 2-1 lead late against the league-leading San Diego FC and ended up losing 3-2 at Toyota Stadium,. San Diego add to their lead atop the Western Conference to four points over Vancouver pending the latter’s match at LAFC on Sunday, while FC Dallas remain 11th in the West, five points out of the playoff places. San Diego have now won four on the bounce while FCF have won just once in their last nine league matches.

Things started inauspiciously for the hosts as San Diego earned a penalty in the 25th minute when Onni Valakari was tripped in the area. Anders Dreyer would convert the spot kick. Lucho Acosta thought he had equalized for FCD in the 35th minute, but VAR ruled him offside in the buildup.

FC Dallas would equalize nine minutes later as Petr Musa took advantage of a poor back pass by Manu Duah to level the score. In the 56th minute, FC Dallas would convert another turnover in San Diego’s half into a goal as Sebastian Lletget would score off a rebound after Musa’s initial shot was stopped.

The lead would last just 19 minutes as Chucky Lozano, who came in as a sub six minutes prior, would toe poke the equalizer in off a pass from Milan Iloski. Hydration breaks and other stoppages led to nine minutes of stoppage time in the second half, but San Diego would need just six of them to net the winner as Tomas Angel was given time to center and score from 12 yards out to take the three points back to San Diego.

FC Dallas will try again against Minnesota on the Fourth of July (7:30pm CT, Apple TV), while San Diego will look to continue its winning streak at home against Houston on Saturday (7:30pm PT, Apple TV).
