Vancouver Whitecaps 2-1 LA Galaxy
VANCOUVER, BC–Vancouver Whitecaps scored early and late on either side of a Gabriel Pec score to defeat defending champion LA Galaxy, 2-1, at BC Place. The Whitecaps start league play at 2-0-0 while LA Galaxy start 0-2-0.
The Whitecaps needed all of two minutes to get on the board first, Pedro Vite got on the end of a thru-ball and sent it back in front of goal. The ball was deflected by Novak Micovic into the path of Sam Adekugbe six yards out for an easy finish.

It would be an unfortunate keeper touch at the other end that led to the Pec strike. Yohei Takaoka came out to challenge a chance by Miguel Berry, but his clearance went right to Pec with the net unguarded and Pec would score past a couple of scrambling defenders to make it 1-1. However, three minutes from time, it was more Vite magic as he sent a diagonal ball into the box and Brian White headed the ball in to give the Whitecaps the three points.
The Whitecaps return to Concacaf Champions Cup play on Wednesday against Monterrey of Mexico at BC Place for the first leg. Kickoff is at 7:30pm Pacific time on ONE Soccer in Canada.
