On-loan striker Tyreece Simpson scored the only goal of the game as the Robins claimed their second consecutive league victory.

Mansfield Town looked like they had equalised in the 76th minute after Tyrese Sinclair’s free-kick, but referee Robert Madley waved play on as he deemed that the ball did not cross the line.

Heading into the game, the sides were only separated by goal difference as Swindon Town sat fourth with the visiting Stags in fifth.

Nigel Clough’s men started the game on the front foot as Ollie Clarke took aim in the third minute, however, he saw his first-time effort go over.

The first attempt on goal came minutes later as Rob Hunt’s low show was routinely saved by Mansfield’s shot-stopper Nathan Bishop.

Stags’ skipper Ollie Clarke had another chance to open the scoring but his effort from the edge of the area was wide of the target.

Just before the end of the first half, Stephen McLaughlin delivered a wonderful corner onto the head of Oli Hawkins who headed narrowly over the bar.

Hunt looked to put Swindon ahead early in the second half, but a fantastic save from Bishop denied the defender from scoring the goal.

Moments later, the Stags were two-on-one as Hawkins squared the ball to his strike partner Danny Johnson, but it was slightly ahead of Mansfield’s number 11 as the visitors failed to capitalise on a brilliant opportunity.

In the 59th minute, Swindon went in front as Tyreece Simpson, on-loan from Ipswich Town, gave his side the lead.

Elliott Hewitt and Oli Hawkins both had chances to equalise for the Stags, but they were unable to take their chances as the amber and blues continued to chase for a leveller.

Jonny Williams was able to find some space and fire a shot goalwards but Bishop was alert to the danger and made a good save.

With 15 minutes to go, Tyrese Sinclair fired his free-kick goalwards. The effort looked to have crossed the line but referee Madley was uninterested as the sides played on.

In added time, Hawkins had an enormous opportunity as he fired his volley at the Swindon goal but Jojo Wollacott was equal to it.

Louis Reed hit the post from a free kick in the 97th minute, but it didn’t matter as the hosts claimed a valuable three points against the Stags.

Swindon now face a week break as they take Stevenage in League Two action next Saturday. Mansfield are back in action on Tuesday as they start their Papa John’s Trophy campaign against Harrogate Town before they take the Sulphurites on again in league action at the One Call Stadium.
