Fleetwood host Huddersfield as fans return to Highbury for the first time this season

Simon Grayson’s side face a tough test against Championship opposition Huddersfield Town in front of home supporters at Highbury.

Fleetwood have had a productive pre-season campaign so far, with an unbeaten run of games against the likes of St Johnstone and Rochdale, as they up the stakes against a stronger force in this one.

Grayson’s side have been able to keep hold of top talent James Hill in the window so far and have recently added Callum Morton on loan from West Brom to bolster their frontline, something which was badly needed at the tail end of last season.

Morton has been unfortunate with injuries in recent seasons but has all the attributes to make a name for himself higher up the football pyramid, Fleetwood will hope this move is the catalyst for him to have a breakout year at the club.

Ryan Edmundson, another striker who is due a breakout season, has joined from Leeds on loan following an indifferent campaign with strugglers Northampton Town, albeit he was left isolated for most of that spell.

Max Clark, Tom Clarke and Anthony Pilkington have signed from Hull City, Salford City and East Bengal respectively as Grayson looks to add experience to his crop of young players in order to provide a helpful balance.

Reliance on their youth products looks to be the way forward this season, having let go of the likes of Sam Finley, Josh Morris and Paul Coutts.

Jay Matete remains at the club following his impressive loan showing at Grimsby and he, alongside Hill and Dan Batty, will look to provide a spine to build on in a hope that the club will become more self sufficient from now on.

As for visitors Huddersfield, fans are not too optimistic ahead of the upcoming Championship campaign given the poor showing last time out, but they have looked to build on their squad.

Ollie Turton turned down a new contract from Blackpool to join the Terriers, with Josh Ruffels from Oxford also looking to make the step up to Championship football.

Jordan Rhodes has returned to the club where he made a name for himself in his 2009 to 2012 spell as the club look to rely on free transfer signings to reinvigorate life in Yorkshire.

This will be the second-last game for Huddersfield in pre-season as they are scheduled to face Crewe at the weekend before their first competitive game in the League Cup against now-League One Sheffield Wednesday.

Narrow defeat away to Norwich last time out showed glimpses of potential and they will want to up the competitive edge in this one as the season draws ever closer.
