Burnley will look to put a hold on Liverpool’s Champions League aspirations as they face the Reds at Turf Moor

After Alisson’s last-minute winner for the Reds at the weekend, they will see their trip to Turf Moor as a chance to put more pressure on Chelsea.

Burnley were outclassed by Leeds last time out after a 4-0 defeat at the hands of Marcelo Bielsa’s side paying testament to the tiredness through the squad after they secured their survival.

Sean Dyche looked like a man ready for the summer break in his post-match press conference as the flaws of the fatigue, particularly in his defence, were ruthlessly exposed by substitute Rodrigo.

He has allowed several key players to rest for the remainder of the campaign, with some opting for surgery on long-term injuries and others not wanting to risk twinges as his side have nothing to play for.

Nick Pope missed the game against Leeds last time out with Bailey Peacock-Farrell taking his place just weeks before England start their European Championship campaign and he is expected to be rested again, not wanting to put extra strain on an injury that is not thought to be serious.

Fans will return to Turf Moor for the first time this season with around 3,000 season ticket holders allowed into the stands.

As a gesture of goodwill, the club’s new owners have issued the tickets for free, the only club in the Premier League to issue tickets without charge, having already allowed those who invested in season tickets at the start of this season to carry them over to 2021/22 free of charge.

For the visitors, Jurgen Klopp’s side will be on a high after a stunning last-minute winner from goalkeeper Alisson giving them the victory against already relegated West Brom. Liverpool are currently in fifth position, just a point off the final Champions League spot.

Given Chelsea’s shock defeat to Leicester in the FA Cup final, they will be vulnerable to another consecutive defeat.

However, Thomas Tuchel has not lost three games in a row in all competitions for eight years, since the early stages of his managerial career at Mainz in the Bundesliga.

Liverpool will look to rely on those that brought them title glory last season to make the difference, but it has been a stumbling campaign for the Merseyside club thus far.

However, the Clarets are always capable of stepping up against the top sides this season, particularly ones that have struggled to break down compact defences like the Reds have, as showcased against West Brom.

Despite their performance dipping since they secured their safety in the league, a compact Burnley side at their best with the likes of Ben Mee and James Tarkowski on form will cause problems for any side.

It is a vital one for the Merseyside club but Burnley love to defy the odds and Sean Dyche will have his side right up for this one.
