The Owls look to snap a seven game losing streak at home to Huddersfield Town

Sitting second from bottom in the Championship with just 28 points, if Sheffield Wednesday wish to stay in England’s second tier next season, a positive run of form must come sooner rather than later.

Darren Moore is still searching for his first win as Wednesday boss, and will hope to kickstart some momentum starting on Wednesday night as the Owls host fellow strugglers Huddersfield Town – who sit five places above in 18th.

Norwich City came from behind to beat the South Yorkshire side 2-1 at the weekend, where some major improvements were spotted in the form of “spirit and endeavour“ by the manager.

“I’ve said to the boys they have got to show that spirit and endeavour; they can’t come off of that now. I’ve seen another improved performance. It will be the smaller details that I pick out of the game in terms of moving forward.”

Andre Green and Joost van Aken are back in first team training, with van Aken making encouraging progress with his rehabilitation programme. The Dutchman hasn’t featured since suffering an ankle injury in December, but isn’t expected back until after the international break.

Chey Dunkley picked up a hamstring injury in training last week according to his manager which is still being “assessed” by the club, and Massimo Luongo is also expected to miss the matchup.

Terriers boss Carlos Corberan’s injury update confirmed Harry Toffolo and Josh Koroma will both miss the trip, but added Koroma is “progressing well and could be available for the last month of the season.”

Despite the Owls’ poor campaign to date, the Spaniard refused to underestimate their ability and believes “every coach brings something different to Sheffield Wednesday’s squad.“

“Darren Moore has a clear determination to play out from the back and to control the ball. He wants to play 4-2-3-1. They have many strong players and will be a strong team, this game will be very difficult and tough. For both teams the points are very necessary.”

Town picked up their first win after four games with three points against QPR on Saturday, with midfielder Juninho Bacuna netting the winner.

The West Yorkshire outfit are nine points clear of the drop zone heading into the local showdown, but with 22nd placed Rotherham’s three games in hand, they are far from safe yet.

Rolando Aarons, Tommy Elphick, Daniel Grant, Christopher Schindler and Danny Ward are further names to add to the visitors’ extensive injury list, which could prove decisive in the season’s run-in.

Huddersfield managed to see off the Owls in their last meeting this season 2-0 thanks to goals from Josh Koroma and Isaac Mbenza – Wednesday night’s hosts managed just two shots on target in that encounter, and will be hoping for a different story this time.
