Danjuma shines once more as Bournemouth keep season alive

Arnaut Danjuma has been sensational of late and last night was no different with the Dutchman causing Swansea all sorts of problems, as the Cherries sealed a comfortable 3-0 victory over Swansea City.

Bournemouth’s season was in real danger of fizzling out if they had lost to the South Wales outfit but Jonathan Woodgate’s side’s intent was clear from the off.

Danjuma’s fine form continued, laying on an assist for Phillip Billing’s stunning acrobatic strike before the 24-year-old sealed the victory with a thumping finish into the roof of the net.

Woodgate spoke about how impressed he has been with Danjuma in his post-match press conference following the 3-0 win over Swansea City last night.

“That’s the goal that settles the nerves. He deserves it, he was working just as hard when he got left out the team and reacted in the right way and is so positive.

Again, he can get better but what he is doing in getting goals and assists, when your frontmen are doing that then you can’t ask for much more from them, doing it week in week out like against Barnsley.”

“They are all doing it at that end (up front) we just need to be more resilient as a group.”

The winger becomes the third Bournemouth player to reach ten league goals this term, following in the footsteps of top scorer Dominic Solanke (11) and fellow winger Junior Stanislas (10) who picked up a hamstring issue in the win over Steve Cooper’s men

His silky skills and movement gave the Swans’ back line all sorts of issues all evening, constantly getting in behind and being a real threat all evening.

Danjuma was really direct and used his pace to good affect, causing Swans’ left back Ryan Manning a headache all evening and he got his deserved goal in the final moments before being replaced by Chris Mepham.

He joined the club at the start of the 2019-2020 season but found it tough to gain regular opportunities in the Premier League, where he made just 14 league appearances under former boss Eddie Howe with just six of them being from the start as he was forced to wait for an opportunity.

The 24-year-old failed to net a goal in the small amount of time he was used in the last campaign, but following the club’s relegation to the Championship, he has excelled and showed just how much quality he possesses.

This term he has featured much more frequently under both Jason Tindall and Woodgate, making 25 appearances in the league and has been one of the first names on the team sheet when fit, as well as Solanke and Stanislas who have all excelled this season.

His ten goals and four assists have really drawn him to the Cherries’ faithful who will be worried about losing him if the club aren’t able to make an instant return to the Premier League.

With just nine league outings remaining for the Cherries, they are two points behind both Barnsley and Reading who are in action this evening and will both feature twice in the Championship before Woodgate’s side due to their involvement in the FA Cup this weekend.

Danjuma has helped the side put a little bit of pressure on those sides above them with the win and can now turn their attention to the FA Cup against an out of form Southampton with the Cherries now without a league outing for 16 days.
