Champions elect Norwich City face trip to relegation threatened Sheffield Wednesday

From a rock bottom finish in the Premier League, life in England’s second division was set to be a positive challenge for Daniel Farke’s Canaries. Having only lost five league games so far this season, the Norfolk outfit are set for a return to the top-flight.

Meanwhile in South Yorkshire, an ever-present side in the Championship now find themselves in danger of dropping to League One for the first time since 2010-11 in which the Owls spent two seasons in the third division.

Darren Moore, formerly of West Brom and Doncaster Rovers has recently been handed the manager position at Hillsborough, facing an extremely tough task of beating the drop.

Winless in their last six league outings, the Owls are seven points from safety and with a lack of goals in recent time may well be the sinking factor for Sheffield Wednesday.

Norwich City haven’t lost since their 2-0 defeat to Swansea City, making it seven league wins in a row scoring 16 goals in the process and keeping hold of five clean sheets.

The last time these two sides met saw the Canaries came from behind at Carrow Road to secure a 2-1 win, goals from Josh Martin and Max Aarons sealed the deal for Farke’s men.

11 games remain in the Championship and Norwich have their eyes set on reaching a similar points tally as they did in their promotion year, winning the league at Villa Park.

With the likes of Emi Buendia, Todd Cantwell and Teemu Pukki, the Owls are in for a busy Sunday afternoon at Hillsborough, but can the recently appointed Moore inspire his side to glory against the champions elect.

Wary of the task at hand, Farke believes that Sheffield Wednesday will be in fighting spirit ahead of the clash:

“I expect them to be there with a good fighting spirit, they have some top players. Bannan, Reach, Paterson, Rhodes, Lees – we have to be on top of our game on Sunday.”

With the odds stacked against them, you can’t rule the hosts out who’ll look to put a halt in their misfortunes in order to put up a brave fight against relegation.

Sheffield Wednesday will be without Keiren Westwood between the sticks as the Irishman is set to miss out due to a rib injury, meaning that Joe Wildsmith will most likely start for the Owls.

As for the Canaries, Adam Idah is set to miss out whilst Ben Gibson faces a late fitness test.

In recent outings, this fixture has seen 21 goals in five matches with Norwich having the better of the Owls winning three of the last five.

Seb Mannell will be at Hillsborough for Sunday’s lunchtime kick-off in the Championship as all the action unfolds.
