Mikael Mandron left Sunderland in 2016 after being released and signed for National League side Eastleigh, since then, the forward has made strides back up the English pyramid.

Crewe welcomed Sunderland to the Alexandra Stadium on Saturday. The two sides played out a 2-2 draw with the Black Cats coming from two goals down to rescue a point late into stoppage time.

Mandron played a part in both Crewe goals with two smart assists for strike partner Chris Porter and midfielder Tom Lowery. The forward was a nightmare for Sunderland all afternoon, putting his physical attributes to good use as he bulled the defence all afternoon and caused problems for the likes of young on-loan defender Dion Sanderson.

The striker’s performance optimised what he was all about and all the hard work that has gone into getting himself back into the Football League since his release from the then Premier League club.

Mandron has notched six goals so far this term and also has three assists, helping Crewe up the 11th place and only five points off a play-off berth, something manager David Artell will be looking to try and compete to get in to come the end of the season.

Crewe have been impressed with the striker this season so much that they have tied the striker down to a deal until the summer of 2022 after joining last summer on a 12-month contract and the forward expressed his delight on the Crewe website.

“I was delighted to sign because I feel that ever since I came here, I have learnt a lot and continue to improve as a player,” said Mandron

“I love the environment, the people are nice and everyone gets on, so when the club offered me a new contract, it was a straight forward decision for me to make.”

The forward also went on to say about how much he loves the setup within Crewe and can only see himself getting better as a player moving forward.
