Umar Akmal’s ban reduced by 12 months


Pakistan star Umar Akmal has seen his ban for corruption reduced by a year by the Court of Arbitration for Sport earlier today.

The 30-year-old was initially banned for a three-year spell, as well as a fine of 4.25 million Pakistani rupees (£18,925).

He will be allowed to return to competitive cricket after completing his rehabilitation programme in the coming months.

The ban was halfed to 18 months on appeal in July 2020, with his most recent outing for his country coming in T20s against Sri Lanka back in 2019.

The batsman has featured in over 200 games across all formats for his country with a best score of 129 in Test Match cricket at an average of over 35 in the longest form of the game.
