Struggling Coventry host title contenders Brentford as the visitors look to avoid three consecutive defeats for the first time since July 2020.
Saturday’s lunch time kick-off showcases two sides with priorities at either end of the Championship table. Despite Thomas Frank’s side pushing for promotion, hosts Coventry sit just three points above the drop after five games without a win.
The hosts are in desperate need for three points having lost three and drawn two of their previous five league games. The Sky Blues look to flip their most recent home result on its head having suffered a 2-0 loss to Norwich City on Wednesday evening. Goals from talisman Teemu Pukki and Argentine maestro Emiliano Buendia ensured all three points for the East Anglian outfit.
Despite the Bees’ relentless 21-unbeaten streak recently, Frank’s team have hit a barricade, failing to pick up points in their last two games. Brentford’s key men are being ran into the ground due to their reliability, thus showing lethargy in their most recent matches against Barnsley and QPR.
Thomas Frank’s Brentford chucked a 1-0 lead away at Loftus Road midweek, losing 2-1 to Mark Warburton’s Queens Park Rangers at the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium. Efforts from West Bromwich Albion loanees Sam Field and Charlie Austin turned the game around for the hosts. Championship top goal scorer Ivan Toney scored the Bees’ consolation. It was the striker’s 100th club goal in his 250th career appearance.
Brentford sit second in the division but circumstances may take a turn for the worst as Steve Cooper’s Swansea have two games in hand on the Bees. This makes it even more integral for Thomas Frank to leave Birmingham with three points on Saturday afternoon.
The Sky Blues have their sights set on the opposite end of the table, with their focus on steering further away from the dreaded drop. Gathering two points from the last five league games has dragged Mark Robins’ outfit into the relegation rawcus, with teams such as Rotherham and Sheffield United both having games in hand.
Coventry scored just once in their previous seven halves of football, which simply isn’t tolerable in the second tier.

Robins is expected to make changes to the side that faced Norwich City midweek. It is highly likely that Wednesday night’s subs will feature from the off on Saturday afternoon.
Josh Pask, Maxime Biamou and Leo Ostigard are all expected to start for the hosts, replacing Julien Da Costa, Jamie Allen and Michael Rose.
Coventry will be without striker Matt Godden and Jodi Jones. In addition, right-back Fankaty Dabo may be in doubt as well as Jordan Thompson.
Brentford
Attacker Tarique Fosu is likely to be replaced by Bryan Mbeumo, plus Saman Ghoddos is in contention to replace midfielder Mathias Jensen. Centre-back Ethan Pinnock is also in contention for the visitors.
Frank’s team remain without Pontus Jansson and Shandon Baptiste.
Injuries to Danish pairing Christian Norgaard and Emiliano Marcondes puts the midfield duo in doubt for Saturday’s game.

Coventry City haven’t beaten Brentford in six encounters, drawing twice and losing four times.
The Sky Blues are one loss away from losing three consecutive matches. It will be the first time since 2018, when Coventry lost four in a row back in 2018.
Brentford have scored eight more goals than Coventry in both of their previous five games. However, both sides have conceded the same amount (8).
