Can anybody stop ruthless Pukki and Buendia patnership?

Teemu Pukki and Emi Buendia have become synonymous with Norwich City’s success this campaign as the Canaries target an instant Premier League return. The duo have now amassed a total of 33 goal involvements between them so far this term.

The two internationals combined for both strikes in a comfortable victory against Coventry City. They were essential as their side went four points clear at the top of the Sky Bet Championship.

Pukki opened the scoring after 28 minutes as Buendia slid a perfectly weighted ball through to the prolific forward who calmly stroked the ball across the goal to the keeper’s right.

The Finland star returned the favour just before the break after Norwich capitalised on a mistake from Mark Robins’ side. The pair confronted the keeper uncontested with the 30-year-old squaring the ball to the Argentine who simply could not miss.

Norwich’s number 22 started the move himself after pouncing on defensive error by Kyle McFadzean. Coventry’s season has been riddled with individual errors that must be eradicated if they are to maintain their Championship status.

The visitors’ boss, Daniel Farke praised his striker’s selflessness when speaking to the club, as he assisted for the second time this campaign.

“If you want to win the golden boot then you have to go yourself, but he just thinks about the team.”

The goals marked the second and third examples of the duo combining to score in the last two games, with Buendia assisting his counterpart during the 4-1 rout of Stoke last weekend.

If the partnership continues to thrive throughout the remainder of the season, Norwich City’s promotion pursuit will be difficult to prevent.

Coventry enjoyed their best spell of the game early on in the second period, creating a flurry of chances that ultimately failed to trouble the resolute Canaries defence. Their best chance of mounting a comeback came through Callum O’Hare.

After finding some space on the right of the penalty area, the promising playmaker failed to squeeze his effort past experienced shot stopper Tim Krul.

The 22-year-old also had the opportunity to open the scoring earlier on in the contest. The Sky Blues only first half chance originated from a beautifully whipped cross from Julien Dacosta. The delivery found O’Hare who was disoriented by Bayern Munich target Max Aarons.

Furthermore, January recruit Dimitrious Giannoulis impressed once again following his loan move from Greek side PAOK. His presence down the left-hand side caused a major threat to the shaky Coventry defence.

When the Canaries weren’t playing their signature through balls to Teemu Pukki, their chance creation predominantly relied upon the full back finding space in the wide areas.

Many football fans believe that a good left back’s main focus should be to accurately cross the ball and find the striker – Giannoulis doesn’t do this. He instead finds advanced positions in the wide areas and looks to make an incisive, short pass to one of the wingers.

Despite his astute acquisition, the 25-year-old hasn’t received the recognition that he’s deserved due to his fellow full back, Max Aarons. The young Englishman has already been linked with a big money summer move to one of Europe’s elite and is valued by his employers at £30m-£35m.

Next up for East Anglian outfit is a bout against relegation-threatened Rotherham United who have tasted defeat in their last two outings.

Whereas the Sky Blues’ fixtures don’t get any easier. Robins’ side are in the midst of a challenging run, they face Brentford and then Swansea City, who place second and third respectively, in their next two matches.
