Rangers interested in signing 23-y/o Coventry City midfielder

Steven Gerrard is interested in signing Coventry midfielder Gustavo Hamer, according to PA via Glasgow Live.

Rangers are reportedly keen on the midfielder but see him more as an option for the summer rather than in the January window.

Hamer joined Coventry from Dutch side PEC Zwolle last summer and has been a revelation ever since, becoming one of the most creative players in the Championship and a vital player in the heart of Mark Robins’ midfield.

The 23-year-old has been important for the Sky Blues this season and has helped his side up the 17th in the table, nine points clear of the bottom three.

The creative midfielder has contributed four goals and two assists so far this season but is creating on average two key passes per game, ranking sixth in the league in this stat.

Most expected newly-promoted Coventry to be in and around the drop zone but they have more than held their own with smart acquisitions last summer.

Hamer would be a huge miss for the Sky Blues should he go in the summer but Coventry fans will be grateful if they can have him till the end of the season as he may well just help secure them another season in the Championship.

If and when the midfielder does leave the club, they could well demand a high fee as he still has two-and-a-half years left on his current deal.
