Time is running out at QPR for Mark Warburton as his side continue to slip down the Championship table

Queens Park Rangers are winless in their last nine matches in the Championship, and pressure has started to mount on manager Mark Warburton after recent results have failed to improve.

In QPR’s last match they played visitors to Norwich which curtailed an exciting 1-1 draw, the match provided not only a point for the blue and white hoops but also time for the ex-Brentford manager who was looked likely to be axed providing a poor result at Carrow Road.

The likes of Jordan Hugill, Nahki Wells and Ebere Eze epitomised everything good about QPR, as the trio provided over 50 goals for Rangers in the 2019/20 season.

Losing a high amount of quality players in similar positions was always going to be hard for QPR, they recruited players such as Lyndon Dykes, Macaulay Bonne, Chris Willock and Albert Adomah who they hoped would be able to fill the void.

It has not been plain sailing for any of them as they all have a combined goal tally of just seven nearly halfway through the season, this is a QPR side who had scored the fifth-most number of goals in the league last year.

Unlike last year QPR was able to score goals for fun, which made up for their defensive woes, but now that the number of goals scored has dried up, it has mount substantial pressure on the managerial position.

With upcoming fixtures being Fulham in the third round of the FA Cup followed by last place Wycombe Wanderers, it seems to be make or break for Warburton in the coming weeks.

A number of names have been linked with potentially replacing the former Glasgow Rangers boss if he were to get sacked in the coming weeks, the likes of Paul Cook and Joey Barton have been thrown about, but one contender appears to rise above the rest, this being Tim Sherwood.

The 51-year-old manager has previously worked with QPR director of football Les Ferdinand as well as Chris Ramsey at Tottenham Hotspur during his reign as manager in 2013-14.

 

Although Sherwood is not held in the highest regard by many fans, he is known for working well with several young players. A prime example of this is that Sherwood was the man to give England superstar Harry Kane his break in the Tottenham first team.

It has become apparent that no matter the manager, QPR are in a tough position both on and off the pitch. It looks like in the coming weeks both Les Ferdinand and the board will have a decision to make.

It has come at an awkward time for Rangers who are in desperate need of some good recruitment this transfer window, but with managerial uncertainty, it will be hard to plan ahead at the club.

Queens Park Rangers will play host to Fulham in the third round of the FA Cup on the 9th January.
