Mansfield Town look to redeem themselves against Stevenage

Mansfield Town host Stevenage at the One Call Stadium in which will be fantastic head to head encounter between the two sides.

Mansfield Town currently sit in 13th place after a disappointing 3-2 defeat against Leyton Orient with Stevenage in the same state as Mansfield as they lost 1-0 against Bradford City and sit in 22nd place with the Boro not being able to score a single goal up to this game.

In this morning’s news conference, manager John Dempster confirmed that midfielder Neal Bishop and Nicky Maynard will not be available for the contest

He also revealed that wing-backs Kellan Gordon and Hayden White are doubts for the match. Forward Andy Cook, who has a knee injury, will not be available for selection.

Long-term absentees Bobby Olejnik, Craig Davies and Jordan Graham will also be out.

For the visitors, Scott Cuthbert remains a doubt, but Ben Nugent and former Stag Paul Digby face longer spells on the sidelines.

Tyler Denton is still unavailable and Dean Parrett and Emmanuel Sonupe could also miss out.

Manager John Dempster has called for a ‘strong, positive reaction’ from Tuesday night’s disappointing 3-2 defeat to Leyton Orient when the Stags take on Stevenage this Saturday at One Call Stadium.

“The players and I were very disappointed after the [Leyton Orient] game. The second-half performance was unacceptable, the players know that and the staff know that.

“It’s important that we learn from it and move on quickly because we have another game on Saturday.

“We take full responsibility for our second-half performance – myself included. It’s important that we learn and move on quickly because we have a massive game on Saturday that we’re well capable of getting the three points from.”

Dino Maamria says his team are on the right track to gain his first win of the 2019/20 season.

“I think we are ready for a win, off the back of the last two performances. At Orient away and Tuesday night, we did a lot right. We have got to make sure we keep doing those right things, and then add quality at both ends of the pitch. The goal we conceded on Tuesday night against Bradford was disappointing, we need to defend the corner better. On the other side of it, we need to be more clinical with our chances. I think we are on the right path.”

In the past five meetings, Mansfield Town have won three times with one draw and Stevenage claiming a 2-1 win last season which slowly ended Mansfied’s promotion hunt.
