John W. Henry and the other board members of Fenway Sports Group have announced that Champions League winning manager Jurgen Klopp will be offered a new deal.

Casting back to Saturday, Klopp orchestrated a historical sixth Champions League win for Liverpool as they beat fellow Premier League side Tottenham 2-0 in Madrid. This was his first trophy in his approaching four-year stay in Anfield.

This season was almost better for the club as they came second in the Premier League to Manchester City, finishing with an impressive 97 points.

It was an important season for the German’s team as they broke a number of records with both Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson becoming the first two defenders from the same side to provide ten or more assists in a single season.

While both wingers Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah were joint Golden Boot winners along with Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang with 22 goals.

Chairman of FSG Tom Werner spoke about what their manager means to the club:

“When the players threw Jurgen in the air last night after our victory, they were acknowledging what all Liverpool fans know- he is beloved by all who appreciate football.

“Jurgen is a brilliant coach but just as importantly, he is a humble and caring man who is happy today because he knows what yesterday meant to our supporters.”

Speaking after the celebrations in the street where up to 750,000 people attended, Klopp praised the fans on the club’s website:

“I don’t know exactly how many people live in Liverpool but it does not look like there is a lot of space for fans of other clubs.

“It is incredible. If you are a young kid, which do you support? There are not a lot of opportunities or options other than Liverpool. You see in the eyes how much it means. It is really intense.”

Klopp has three seasons left to run on his current deal which runs out in the summer of 2022, and since leading his side to eighth in his first season he has consistently improved on their position in the league table.
