Manchester City will compete in the 2019 Women’s International Champions Cup

Manchester City Women have announced that they will compete in the second Women’s International Champions Cup (ICC) this August.

In the ICC, four of the best women’s teams from around the world face each other. Nick Cushing’s side competed in the inaugural competition last season where they faced Olympique Lyonnais and Paris Saint-Germain, finishing in third place with North Carolina Courage winning the tournament.

Last year’s winners will host the competition this summer, from 15 to 18 August, where Lyon, Man City and Atletico Madrid will compete for the trophy. For the first time, the winners of the event will receive a monetary prize.

Relevant Sports Group organise the tournament and their CEO Daniel Sillman said:

“This tournament is a key component of our core mission; to provide more opportunities for people of all backgrounds to participate in soccer.

“The women’s game is every bit as compelling as the men’s game, and it is a privilege to host a world-class tournament featuring these special athletes.”

“We are delighted to be taking part in the second Women’s International Champions Cup. Last year, the tournament offered the team great preparation for the season ahead, as well as an opportunity to connect with our growing fan base in America.

“With four elite teams taking part, the competition is even better this time around and we look forward to be a part of it once again.”

All of the Women’s ICC matches will be broadcast on ESPN.
