Joe Ledley and Derby County part ways as his contract is cancelled

Wales international Joe Ledley agreed to part ways with Championship club Derby County on deadline day after both parties settled on cancelling the player’s contract.

The midfielder has played 30 times since joining as a free agent in 2017 but has decided to move on to find more game time with his Rams deal set to expire this summer.

After suffering an injury earlier on in the season the Welshman has failed to get into manager Frank Lampard’s plans after undergoing hip surgery. He played four times under the former Chelsea man.

In a statement on his twitter, Ledley announced the decision saying:

Former Crystal Palace player Ledley has previously had stints with Cardiff City and Celtic while also playing 77 times for his national team. He’s now on the lookout for his fifth club in his 15-year career.

With his contract ending, Lampard opted to bring in Andy King on loan from Leicester City as cover for the departing Ledley.
