Warrant issued for Ronaldo DNA

Warrant issued for Ronaldo DNA

Cristiano Ronaldo has been ordered to provide a DNA sample to police in Las Vegas as part of their investigation into rape allegations made against the Juventus striker.

Ronaldo denies assaulting Kathryn Mayorga in 2009 in a Las Vegas hotel.

Speaking with the BBC, the former Real Madrid striker’s lawyer, Peter S. Christiansen, said the request was “very standard” and released a statement on behalf of his client strongly denying the allegations.

“Mr Ronaldo has always maintained, as he does today, that what occurred in Las Vegas in 2009 was consensual in nature, so it is not surprising that DNA would be present, nor that the police would make this very standard request as part of their investigation.” read the statement from Christiansen.

Der Spielgel, a German weekly news magazine, first published the story about the alleged assault in October. The publication claims Ms Mayorga filed a report with the Las Vegas police shortly after the alleged incident.

The Wall Street Journal reported that a warrant was also recently sent to the court system in Italy. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department later confirmed,

“We can confirm that an official request has been submitted to the Italian authorities. Due to this being an ongoing investigation, we have no additional information or comment on this case at this time.”

The LVMPD also added that it was “taking the same steps in this case as in any other sexual assault to facilitate the collection of DNA evidence.”

It was reported by Der Spiegel that in 2010 the former Manchester United winger reached an out-of-court settlement of £288,000 ($375,000) for agreeing to never go public with the allegations.

Ms Mayorga was inspired to speak out by the #MeToo movement according to her lawyer and is suing Ronaldo in the United States.
