Inter Milan have issued an official statement, that they have suspended their Belgium midfielder Radja Nainggolan from all footballing activity.
The central midfielder signed for the Milan club in the summer, after a spell at fellow Serie A side AS Roma. Nainggolan was seen as the marquee signing which would propel the club into the Champions League proper.
Unfortunately injuries and inconsistent performances ensured the Belgian to make just 14 appearances in all competitions for Luciano Spaletti’s side. Now, things have worsened as the club cite ‘disciplinary reasons’ for suspending Nainggolan over the Christmas period.
Nainggolan has had brushes with controversy before. Much is made of his lifestyle choices. The Belgian sports tattoos all over his body, exuberant hairstyles and is a known smoker when off the pitch. Almost a year ago, on
New Year’s Eve 2018, he became subject of strong controversy in Italy after he posted a video on social media cursing, drinking alcohol and smoking.
This comes soon after Nainggolan was involved in controversy over several visits to the casino, incurring huge losses, but tried to shift the blame to being robbed of around €150,000
The specific reasons for this suspension are unknown, but Inter Milan have a key fixture on Boxing Day when Napoli visit the San Siro, and Spaletti would have preferred to have a full squad to choose from against a direct rival for Champions League qualification.
