Bolton Wanderers have banned the Bolton News’ chief football writer Marc Iles from attending matches at the University of Bolton Stadium.

The ban also restricts Iles from pre-match press conferences.

The decision came following Iles reporting of recent off-field matters including the payment of players and other member of staff. The club also had an issue with GIF Iles tweeted.

Manager Phil Parkinson explain the decision saying the club had ‘concerns over the tone and accuracy’ of the reporting in recent weeks.

The ban was imposed by Wanderers’ chairman Ken Anderson and The Bolton News learned of this via email. The ban begins with immediate effect.

Editor Karl Holbrook supported his football writer, saying:

“Its an unfortunate situation to be in but The Bolton News and Marc Iles stand firm.

“We will press on with our independent coverage no matter what. We answer to fans not the chairman.

Bolton have been under the spotlight in the last couple of weeks due to their financial situation and failure to pay all their employees for the month of November.
