Martín Ojeda’s brace leads Orlando past New England 2-1

FOXBOROUGH, MA– New England Revolution (6-7-10, 25 pts) were defeated 2-1 versus Orlando City SC (10-8-6, 38 pts) on Saturday night.

The match kicked off at 7:30 p.m. ET at Gillette Stadium to a crowd of 24,954.

The match kicked off with New England starting from the center circle as they elected to build out of the back to start the match.

New England had the first chance of the match when a corner kick by Carles Gil was headed down by Leo Campana was trapped on the floor by an Orlando City player. Ilay Feingold went for the ball and was met with a clean tackle in the penalty area by Rodrigo Schlegel. The ball was then cleared.

Carles Gil had the next chance when his effort in the 16th minute was deflected away and out for a corner kick.

Entering the 17th minute, Orlando City took the lead.

Following a long over the top through ball by Eduard Atuesta, the ball took a bounce, had Aljaž Ivačič jumping for the ball, and it snuck underneath him and led to a simple finish by Martín Ojeda to make it 1-0 to Orlando.

Eduard Atuesta had the next chance of the match when his long distant effort in the 22nd minute missed the net.

Carles Gil had the next chance for the Revolution when his freekick effort in the 27th minute when high over the net.

In the 29th minute, Revolution midfielder Matt Polster was issued a yellow card for a harsh foul on David Brekalo.

Orlando had a massive chance to score when an effort into the area by Martín Ojeda went straight through the box and just missed the post in the 34th minute.

Brayan Ceballos had a fantastic delivery into the area in the 42nd minute that snuck through the entire box and just missed Miller, Langoni & Campana.

After the initial 45+1 minutes, the match entered halftime with Orlando City leading 1-0.

Prior to the start of the second half, Revolution head coach Caleb Porter made his first change of the match by replacing Tanner Beason with Tomás Chancalay.

The second half kicked off with Orlando launching the ball into New England’s defensive third. The effort that was sent forward was awkwardly pushed by Ivačič and claimed.

New England had a massive chance to level the scoreline in the 51st minute when a delivery into the box by Luca Langoni was just missed by Leo Campana.

Less than two minutes later, Carles Gil had a chance of his own when his left footed effort hit the side netting.

In the 54th minute, Orlando City SC midfielder Marco Pašalić was issued a yellow card for kicking the ball away.

Entering the 55th minute, New England leveled the scoreline.

Defender Ilay Feingold switched the field to find forward Tomas Chancalay in space. He trapped the ball, cut inside, and buried a shot past goalkeeper Pedro Gallese to make it 1-1.

Less than 2 minutes later, Orlando City regained the lead.

Midfielder Ivan Angulo drove the ball into New England’s penalty area and laid the ball off for forward Martín Ojeda for the simple bar-down finish to make it 2-1 to Orlando

Marco Pašalić had a massive chance in the 60th minute when his long distant effort was met with a spectacular diving save by Aljaž Ivačič.

New England had 3 massive chances to score in the 64th minute when Tomás Chancalay had a long distant effort that forced a save by Pedro Gallese. The ball then fell for Leo Campana, whose shot then struck the post, and then the ball fell again for Tomás Chancalay, who sent his next effort over the bar.

Less than a minute later, Orlando City goalkeeper Pedro Gallese was issued a yellow card for time wasting.

In the 66th minute, Revolution defender Brayan Ceballos was issued a yellow card for a harsh foul.

In the 72nd minute, Revolution head coach Caleb Porter made his second change of the match by replacing Luca Langoni with Maxi Urruti.

Less than a minute later, Peyton Miller had an unbelievable chance when his effort was met with a spectacular save by Pedro Gallese. Unbelievable save.

In the 75th minute, Orlando City head coach Óscar Pareja made his first change of the match by replacing Marco Pašalić with Zakaria Taifi.

Aljaž Ivačič had to make a great save in the 80th minute when an effort by Martín Ojeda was creeping toward the upper right corner but was saved away.

In the 84th minute, Revolution head coach Caleb Porter made his third change of the match by replacing Peyton Miller with Luis Díaz.

In the 90+1 minute, Orlando City head coach Óscar Pareja made his second change of the match by replacing Robin Janssen with Kyle Smith.

In the 90+5 minute, Orlando City head coach Óscar Pareja made his third and final change of the match by replacing Iván Angulo with Rafael Santos.

After the 90+6 minutes, the match concluded with Orlando holding on for the 2-1 victory over New England.

With the result, New England remain in 11th place in the MLS Eastern Conference.
