New England battle to 3-3 draw versus Orlando City SC

FOXBOROUGH, MA– New England Revolution (5-2-4, 16 pts) battled to a 3-3 draw with Orlando City SC (4-6-2, 18 pts). on Saturday Afternoon.

The match kicked off at 7:30 p.m. ET at Inter & Co Stadium to a crowd of 18,805.

Starting XI versus Orlando City SC

The match kicked off with New England starting from the center circle and building out of the left flank to begin the match.

Orlando had the first chance of the match when Alex Freeman slipped in-behind and took a right-footed shot that was saved by goalkeeper Aljaž Ivačič.

César Araújo had a chance just 3 minutes later when his effort from outside the area was saved out by Aljaž Ivačič.

Less than a minute later, Leo Campana had a chance of his own from distance that was caught comfortably by goalkeeper Pedro Gallese.

Aljaž Ivačič made a spectacular save in the 23rd minute when a first-time shot by César Araújo was heading into the bottom corner.

Entering the 24th minute, Orlando took the lead.

Receiving the ball on the left flank, Martín Ojeda drove into the area and unleashed a rocket of a shot that struck the crossbar and went down and in to make it 1-0 to Orlando City.

Entering the 33rd minute, Orlando added to their lead.

Martín Ojeda got in-behind, took on Brayan Ceballos & Tanner Beason before slotting the ball into the bottom right corner to make it 2-0.

Entering the 38th minute, New England pulled one back.

Midfielder Carles Gil played a ball wide to find Ignatius Ganago in the penalty area on the left flank. He sent the ball across the net to find Ilay Feingold, who then cut the ball back for Alhassan Yusuf for the simple finish to make it 2-1.

Entering the 45th minute, New England leveled the scoreline.

Following a short corner, midfielder Carles Gil delivered a ball into the area that was headed on by midfielder Matt Polster to level the scoreline 2-2.

After 45+3 minutes, the match entered halftime with the scoreline level at 2-2.

Half Time between New England & Orlando City SC.

The second half kicked off with New England starting from the center circle and quickly advancing the ball into Orlando City’s defensive third.

Orlando had the first chance of the second half when David Brekalo’s close range effort was saved by Aljaž Ivačič and then struck the post in the 48th minute.

Entering the 53rd minute, Orlando City were awarded a questionable penalty from VAR after a clearance by Brayan Ceballos struck and endangered Orlando City forward Joran Gerbet.

Midfielder Martín Ojeda stepped up and buried the penalty kick to complete his hattrick and regain the lead for Orlando City.

New England’s next chance came in the 60th minute when a freekick delivery by Carles Gil was flicked on by Tanner Beason and caught by goalkeeper Pedro Gallese.

In the 69th minute, Orlando City head coach Óscar Pareja made his first change of the match by replacing Joran Gerbet with Dag­ur Þór­halls­son.

Less than one minute later, Revolution head coach Caleb Porter made his first two changes by replacing Tanner Beason & Mamadou Fofana with Luis Diaz & Wyatt Omsberg.

In the 74th minute, Orlando City head coach Óscar Pareja made his second and third change of the match by replacing Luis Muriel & Ivan Angulo with Ramiro Enrique & Duncan McGuire.

In the 77th minute, Orlando City defender David Brekalo & midfielder César Araújo were both issued yellow cards.

In the 80th minute, Orlando City goalkeeper Pedro Gallese was issued a yellow card.

Entering the 85th minute, New England were awarded a penalty kick after forward Ignatius Ganago was taken down in the penalty area.

Midfielder Carles Gil stepped up and buried the ball into the center of the goal past Pedro Gallese to make it 3-3.

After the goal, both teams made changes. Revolution head coach Caleb Porter made two changes by replacing Peyton Miller & Ilay Feingold with Will Sands & Brandon Bye. Orlando City head coach Óscar Pareja replaced Rodrigo Schlegel with Rafael Santos.

Entering the 90th minute, Orlando had thought they had taken the lead after a shot by Ivan Angulo deflected off of Duncan McGuire and into the net, however, McGuire was offside.

In the 90+1 minute, Revolution goalkeeper Aljaž Ivačič was issued a yellow card. Following the card, Revolution head coach Caleb Porter made his final change of the match by replacing Ignatius Ganago with Keegan Hughes

Orlando’s next chance came in the 90+5 minute when a header by Martín Ojeda went just wide of the net.

In the 90+11 minute, Orlando City defender Dag­ur Þór­halls­son was issued a yellow card.

After 90+12 minutes, the match concluded in a 3-3 draw.

With the result, New England move to 9th place in the MLS Eastern Conference. New England currently sits 3-points out of 3rd place with a game in hand.
