New England Revolution to send Earl Edwards Jr. to San Jose Earthquakes

FOXBOROUGH, MA– New England Revolution have traded goalkeeper Earl Edwards Jr. to the San Jose Earthquakes for $150,000 in General Allocation Money.

The move will open a supplemental roster slot for New England.

Late Friday night, Seth Macomber of the Blazing Musket had reported that the New England Revolution had secured a trade that Earl Edwards Jr. to San Jose Earthquakes for $150,000 in General Allocation Money.

Edwards is now the 4th player traded and 5th player from the 2024 New England Revolution to join San Jose ahead of the 2025 campaign.

The move re-unites the Edwards Jr. with former New England Revolution sporting director and head coach Bruce Arena.

He was placed on administrative leave from the New England Revolution in August of 2023 and subsequently resigned just one month later after an investigation determined that he’d made insensitive and inappropriate remarks.

After meeting with commissioner Don Garber in December of 2023, Bruce Arena was re-instated to work in MLS.

He was signed by San Jose Earthquakes as their new Head Coach & Sporting Director in early November.

In December, San Jose acquired Ian Harkes, Dave Romney, & Mark-Anthony Kaye via trade with New England & have since added Nick Lima.

Earl Edwards Jr., 31, signed as a free agent for New England during the 2021 season.

Since his arrival, Edwards Jr. has made 28 appearances (2,520 minutes) for New England where he made 40 total saves with a 0.565% save percentage. He allowed 51 goals and held 1.82 goals against average. He had 2 clean sheets in his Revolution career.
