Charlotte FC destroy 10-men New England 4-0

FOXBOROUGH, MA– The New England Revolution (8-4-17, 28 pts.) were obliterated 4-0 versus Charlotte FC (11-8-11, 41 pts.) on Saturday afternoon.

The match kicked off at 4:00 p.m. ET at Bank of America Stadium to a crowd of 20,000.

The team started their lineup in a 4-2-3-1 formation with Aljaž Ivačič starting in net with a backline of (left back) Peyton Miller, (center backs) Tim Parker, and Xavier Arreaga, along with (right back) Brandon Bye. The midfield spots were manned by Matt Polster (left defensive midfield) and Alhassan Yusuf (right defensive midfield), with Carles Gil appeared ahead of them (central attacking midfield). The forward roles were manned Nacho Gil (left wing), Esmir Bajraktarevic (right wing), and Giacomo Vrioni as the lone striker.

The match began with New England starting from the center circle and swiftly advancing the ball into Charlotte FC’s defensive third.

Charlotte had the first chance of the match came in the 15th minute when forward #9 Karol Swiderski’s two efforts were blocked and sent over the bar.

New England had their first chance less than a minute later when Giacomo Vrioni’s effort went wide of the net.

Charlotte midfielder #30 Junior Urso had a chance of his own in the 22nd minute that was headed just wide of the goal.

New England’s best chance of the match came in the 29th minute when Giacomo Vrioni missed from close-range. Certainly, should have scored.

 

In the 33rd minute, Revolution midfielder Carles Gil was issued a yellow card for dissent.

Entering the 39th minute, Charlotte took the lead.

Following a shot by forward #11 Liel Abada, the ball was bobbled by goalkeeper Aljaž Ivačič and spilled in front of the goal. The ball was mis-cleared by Xavier Arreaga and was finished by #11 Liel Abada, who continued his run to the far-right post.

After the initial 45+2 minutes, the match entered halftime with Charlotte ahead 1-0.

The match began with Charlotte FC starting from the center circle and elected to build out of the back to begin the match.

Esmir Bajraktarevic had a chance in the 51st minute when his close range shot was saved low by goalkeeper #1 Kristijan Kahlina.

Less than one minute later, Charlotte FC defender #14 Nathan Byrne was issued a yellow card.

Just two minutes later, in the 53rd minute, Revolution defender Tim Parker was issued a yellow card.

In the 56th minute, Revolution head coach Caleb Porter made his first two changes of the match by replacing Nacho Gil and Esmir Bajraktarevic with Luca Langoni and Dylan Borrero.

Charlotte continued their pressure in the second half when forward #11 Liel Abada had a long-distant effort entering the 60th minute that went just over the bar.

In the 63rd minute, Charlotte head coach Dean Smith made his first three changes of the match by replacing forward #9 Karol Świderski, midfielder #11 Liel Abada and midfielder #30 Junior Urso and replaced them with forward #33 Patrick Agyemang, forward #18 Kerwin Vargas and midfielder #28 Djibril Diani.

Entering the 65th minute, Charlotte added to their lead.

Forward #33 Patrick Agyemang drove into the area and made a square pass to find midfielder #10 Pep Biel for the simple finish from less than 3-yards out to make it 2-0.

Following the goal, Revolution head coach Caleb Porter made his third change of the match by replacing Brandon Bye with Nick Lima.

In the 70th minute, Revolution midfielder Dylan Borrero was issued a yellow card for a tackle. Less than 30 seconds later, Borrero was issued a second yellow card for dissent. Due to this, New England would play the remainder of the match with 10-men.

In the 75th minute, Revolution head coach Caleb Porter made his final two changes by replacing Alhassan Yusuf and Giacomo Vrioni with Ian Harkes and Bobby Wood.

Entering the 77th minute, Charlotte added to their lead.

Midfielder #10 Pep Biel played a through ball to find forward #33 Patrick Agyemang for the simple right-footed finish into the bottom left corner to make it 3-0 to Charlotte FC.

Less than 3 minutes later, Charlotte had two more opportunities, but the ball was sent over the bar.

In the 81st minute, Charlotte head coach Dean Smith replaced midfielder #10 Pep Biel with forward #38 Iuri Tavares.

Less than a minute later, Charlotte defender #29 Adilson Malanda was issued a yellow card.

Entering the 88th minute, Charlotte added to their lead.

Midfielder #33 Patrick Agyemang squared the ball to find midfielder #18 Kerwin Vargas for the right-fo0ted shot into the bottom left corner to make it 4-0 to the hosts.

In the 90+1 minute, Charlotte head coach Dean Smith made his final change of the match by replacing midfielder #13 Brandt Bronico with midfielder #36 Brandon Cambridge.

After the 90+4 minutes, the match concluded with Charlotte comfortably holding on for the 4-0 victory.

With the result, New England moves to 15th in the MLS Eastern Conference. They currently sit 5 points below the playoff line

The New England Revolution (8-4-17, 28pts.) return home where they are set to face MLS Eastern Conference side Nashville SC (8-9-13, 33 pts.) on Saturday, September 28th. The match kicks off in Gillette Stadium at 7:30 p.m. ET on MLS Season Pass on the Apple TV app.
