Table-topping Toulouse set for London visit

Following last weekends momentous win against Featherstone, Toulouse makes the trip to the capital to face London Broncos.

Last week saw the two dominant sides in the Championship finally meet, after over four months of the season. Unsurprisingly, it was largely a tight and brutal affair, but as expected Toulouse had just too much for Fev, eventually running out 23-6 winners.

This victory ultimately set the scene for the rest of the Championship season, with the French outfit looking unlikely to lose to anyone this season. They may not pose the best team that’s ever been in the league, but they are certainly looking like one of the most dominant teams in Championship history.

However, following on from such a momentous victory, they face the tough task of playing a good London Broncos side, who will be looking for the huge upset to make it three in three for Tom Tsang.

The reverse fixture posed some controversy, set to be played in Round Two the match was not played. Back in April, the Covid situation was very different in both the UK and in France, with the UK just coming out of lockdown and France still under maximum restrictions. As a result, London refused to travel due to the Covid situation, feeling as though they should be allowed to postpone the trip to a later date. The RFL did not comply and ultimately the match was officially a 24-0 walkover.

Although the Head Coach may be different, London will be looking for redemption with the whole situation surrounding this fixture causing outrage early in the season.

The odds may not be in favour of the hosts this weekend, however, following the mauling at Post Office Road they received back in round 12, on the receiving end of a 63-14 loss.

In London’s last outing, they came from behind to beat a determined Oldham side by 30-20 at the Vestacare Stadium. In this game, the Broncos scored three of their five tries in the last ten minutes, showing their real character to come from 20-12 down to earn the two points.

The Broncos will be buoyed by the return of Sid Adebiyi, who is set to make his first appearance of the season.

With Batley playing Featherstone, there is a possibility that the Broncos can claw their way up the table with a remarkable win. For Toulouse, they will look to cement the top spot and back up last weeks victory to maintain their 100% record.
