Jack Wells is living his childhood dream of pulling on the Salford shirt and representing his hometown club. He signed for Salford in December ahead of the 2021 season. He followed the club as a season ticket holder from 2006-2011, he admitted the move was a ‘dream come true.
His side have not had the best start to the 2021 Betfred Super League season with just one win in their opening seven games, but he believes the side are in a good position going forward.
“We are not doing too well at the moment in terms of winning games, but in terms of form, and the way we are playing at the moment it’s all in good stead”.
“We have only had two wins so far against Widnes in the Challenge Cup and Leigh in Super League. It’s been a slow start to the season”.
The second half performances have been a major factor in the Red Devil’s form, with the opening 20 minutes proving to be crucial in games getting away from his Salford side.
“It’s our starts to second half’s. For the past three weeks, they haven’t been good at all. I think that’s what has let us down at the moment, not being consistent at the start of the half. The inconsistency of errors and stupid penalties. But we aren’t even halfway through the season so there is plenty of time to fix them up”.
Last week saw the long-awaited return of fans back into stadiums and it came at the perfect time for Jack, who crashed over against Wigan, for his first try in a Salford shirt:
“It was a brilliant feeling, especially having the fans there. It was perfect timing as I had only just come onto the pitch. I have to give credit to Tui Lolohea as he did all the hard work.
“I loved every minute of the match. Just like when I signed for Salford, scoring that try was a surreal feeling. It will be one to remember when I look back on my career. Having the fans there for my first try was brilliant. The atmosphere was great all game, they didn’t stop singing and that’s what we wanted. Having them there for my first try did make it that extra bit special”.
Warrington are up next for the Red Devil’s a side that has struggled with consistency this season. “ They are hit and miss at the moment, you don’t know what type of performance you are going to come up against. We just have to focus on our performance and the game plan we have focused on this week. If we do that we won’t be far off getting the win”.
