Liverpool win away in Belgium

Liverpool secured a comfortable 4-1 victory in Genk in their UEFA Champions League Group match.

This match was a calmer performance from the European champions after the chaos of Liverpool’s Champions’ League Title defence so far.

Liverpool got off to the perfect start with an Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain goal from 20 yards.

Total Football? Not exactly. It was disjointed at times. However, for all the grumbles about shape and control, Liverpool’s second was a work of art from the Ox. With the ball laid off to him on the edge of the box he played a simple flick with the outside of his boot before seeing it clip the underside of the crossbar and enter the net.

To round off the scoring for Liverpool, Mohamed Salah assisted Sadio Mane in the 77th minute, and Mane assisted Salah for his goal ten minutes later to cap off a good night for the European Champions. Genk scored a consolation goal through Odey a minute later.

At a time when the biggest criticism of Klopp’s squad is a lack of goals from midfield, this performance and double from the Ox was a timely reminder of just what he can bring when fit, firing and on song. Maybe just maybe the European Champions are just warming up and they can really light their season up with Naby Keita and the Ox reminding everyone what they can bring to the Reds party.
