The PFA League One Team of the Year has been announced with Daniel Stendel’s Barnsley dominating the side with five players.

Barnsley goalkeeper Adam Davies and defenders Dimitri Cavare and Ethan Pinnock have been rewarded with a space in the team from the league’s best defence, the Tykes conceding 36 goals in 44 games this season.

Portsmouth’s Matt Clarke also gets a spot in the back line having started every game of Pompey’s campaign so far this season.

21-year-old James Justin of league leaders Luton completes the defence as the youngster continues to impress in the Hatters defence. The full-back is considered to be one of the leading contenders for the League One Young Player of the Year award.

Aiden McGeady is Sunderland’s sole representative in the team, the former Republic of Ireland international scoring 11 goals this season for the Black Cats as they continue their quest to return to the Championship.

Alex Mowatt is the fourth of five Barnsley players in the team, the 24-year-old netting eight goals and providing six assists as Stendel’s side currently sit in second.

Jamal Lowe completes a Pompey double in the team as the former non-league player continues to see his stock rise. Lowe has built on an impressive first season in League One to score 14 goals this campaign and attract suitors from the higher divisions, although Kenny Jackett will be desperate to keep hold of his tricky winger.

Luton’s James Collins is the first of the three strikers in this team as the 28-year-old has built upon his 19 goals in League Two last year to fire 24 this season. Collins is currently top of the goalscoring charts and also was recently called up by Mick McCarthy to a Republic of Ireland squad.

The ever-reliable John Marquis is Doncaster’s only player in the team as the Englishman has followed up seasons of 26 and 15 goals with another 19 this campaign. His goals have lifted Doncaster to sixth as they look to secure the final play-off place with two games remaining.

The final player in the eleven and the fifth Barnsley player is Kieffer Moore. Similarly to Marquis, Moore has regularly scored goals for firstly Rotherham and then Barnsley over the last few seasons with the 6ft 5′ striker netting 18 goals in League One this season before a head injury sustained in February ruled him out for the rest of the season.
