The 31-year-old has represented clubs in the top-flight of England, Italy, Germany and Spain whilst attending two World Cups with Ghana, including their run to the quarter-finals in 2010.
He had made 13 appearances for Sassuolo so far in Serie A , scoring four goals and asisisting his teammates on two occasions. Boateng’s previous season in the La Liga saw him score ten times for Las Palmas during the 2016/17 season.
When Boateng pulls on the famous blaugrana shirt of Barcelona, which could be as early as Wednesday’s Copa del Rey quarter-final against Sevilla, he will become the first Ghanian to ever play for the club.
The signing is Barcelona’s second piece of business during the winter window, welcoming Columbian centre-back Jeison Murillo in on a season-long loan with option to buy deal from Valencia.
The agreement includes a season-long loan with the option to make the deal permanent for €8 million.
It is understood that Boateng will be presented as a Barcelona player tomorrow.
