Revs Erase Deficit, Down Crew 2-1 to Extend Home Dominance

FOXBOROUGH, MA– New England Revolution (4-0-3, 12 pts.) were victorious 2-1 over Columbus Crew (2-1-5, 7 pts) on Saturday night.

The match kicked off at 7:30 p.m. ET at Gillette Stadium to a crowd of 16,257.

The match kicked off with Columbus starting from the center circle as they elected to build out from the back to begin the match.

Dylan Chambost had the first opportunity for Columbus Crew in just the 3rd minute when his right-footed long-distant effort was blocked away by defender Ethan Kohler and out for a corner kick.

New England’s first massive chance came in the 12th minute when midfielder Alhassan Yusuf took an expressive touch to get around a Columbus defender and then laid the ball off for forward Dor Turgeman, who then unleashed a right-footed shot outside the box that snuck just over the crossbar.

Just two minutes later, defender Max Arfsten set-up forward Hugo Picard for a volley but the chance just missed at the back-right post.

In the 15th minute, Revolution head coach Marko Mitrović was forced to make his first change by replacing defender Bryan Ceballos with defender Peyton Miller.

Forward Hugo Picard missed a clear chance in the 22nd minute when he was found side the six-yard box and took a shot that went straight at goalkeeper Matt Turner.

New England had two chances just one minute later when defender Will Sands missed from close-range and midfielder Luca Langoni’s right-footed shot was comfortably saved by goalkeeper Patrick Schulte.

Entering the 24th minute, Columbus took the lead.

Following a poorly played back pass by Revolution midfielder Alhassan Yusuf, the ball fell for Crew midfielder Andre Gomes, was played into space to find forward Diego Rossi driving down the right flank, who then found defender Max Arfsten at the back post for a simple finish to make it 1-0 to Columbus Crew.

The next chance of the match came for New England in the 38th minute when a delivery into the area by midfielder Luca Langoni was comfortably claimed by goalkeeper Patrick Schulte.

After the initial 45+4 minutes, the match entered halftime with Columbus ahead  at 1-0.

The second half began with New England starting from the center circle as they swiftly advanced the ball into Columbus’ defensive third.

Matt Turner came up clutch in the 49th minute when he denied Malte Amundsen from close range, however, the play was deemed offsides in the end.

Entering the 54th minute, New England leveled the scoreline.

Following a freekick delivery into the area by midfielder Luca Langoni, the ball was headed home by forward Dor Turgeman to level the scoreline at 1-1.

Peyton Miller had a chance to take the lead in the 65th minute when a ball played back to goalkeeper Patrick Schulte was barely cleared.

In the 66th minute, Columbus Crew head coach Henrik Rydström made his first two changes of the match by replacing forwards Daniel Gazdag & Hugo Picard with forwards Jamal Thiare & Andres Herrera.

In the 70th minute, Columbus Crew midfielder Andre Gomes was issued a yellow card for a harsh foul on midfielder Carles Gil. Additionally, New England Revolution goalkeeper Matt Turner was issued a yellow card for confronting Gomes after the challenge near midfield.

Entering the 82nd minute, New England were given a penalty kick after defender Rudy Camacho brought down forward Dor Turgeman in the penalty area.

In the 83rd minute, Revolution head coach Marko Mitrović made his second change of the match by replacing midfielder Luca Langoni  with midfielder Diego Fagundez.

Less than two minutes later, Columbus Crew defender Max Arfsten was issued a yellow card for a late foul on defender Ilay Feingold.

Following the foul, Columbus Crew head coach Henrik Rydström made two more changes by replacing midfielder Andres Gomes & defender Steven Moreira with midfielder Sekou Bangoura & forward Nariman Akhundzada.

Columbus had an unbelievable chance in the 90+1 minute when an effort by defender Rudy Camacho inside the area struck the right post and was cleared into the seats by defender Peyton Miller.

In the 90+3 minute, Revolution head coach Marko Mitrović made his final change of the match by replacing forward Dor Turgeman with midfielder Eric Klein.

In the 90+5 minute, Columbus Crew defender Rudy Camacho was issued a yellow card for a foul on midfielder Alhassan Yusuf.

Columbus’ next chance came in the 90+7 minute after a free kick chance delivered not the box was cleared away for a corner kick.

After the 90+10 minutes, the match concluded with New England rallying back for the 2-1 victory.
