“The first 45 (minutes) was poor. I think we struggled to break their pressure with just the movement ahead of the ball. I think we made too many individual mistakes, and sure, it’s the first game of preseason, but I think there was more expectation for this game,”

“We didn’t see that enough, I would say. But you get answers from the games, and we know that wasn’t the standard that we’re looking for.”

There were no changes to either team’s lineup to begin the second half.

Following an interception on Alhassan Yusuf by Pavel Bucha, the ball was advanced to forward Kevin Denkey who then slotted it home past goalkeeper Matt Turner to give FC Cincinnati the advantage 1-0.

“As a team, we want to push no matter what the circumstances are and today you saw that from everyone within the group being relentless, in the sense of ‘okay, we’re going to go for the win.’ Whatever the score, we are going to keep pushing, keep scoring goals,” explained assistant coach Blair Gavin. “We saw a lot of good moments today. Now, it’s about building that consistency, building that familiarity with people on the field.”

Revolution winger Griffin Yow, who made his debut today, also reflected on the outcome and commented on the team’s resilience to come back after being down 1-0.

“I think it shows the resilience of the team, that we just fight until the last whistle. I think we were unlucky not to go [up]2-1 and leave with the three points. But that’s just how football goes. I think it shows really good character and gives us a good feeling to push for the rest of camp.”

Forward Leo Campana then reflected on his lone goal & complimented the team’s offseason work & looking to improve every single day.

“It’s always important personally to score. I worked really hard in the offseason, and I think we’re getting the results we all wanted. In the first game, obviously we won against Sarasota. Now, it’s a tie that I think we’re not happy about,” said Campana. “I think the mentality has raised in this team this year, so we have to keep performing, keep getting better, keep working on the things we need to improve, and keep getting better every day.”

When discussing the upcoming season, Leo Campana noted, “I’m excited, honestly.” He noted the positive vibes, environment and the personal side of his teammates.

“Outside of the pitch they’re great human beings. I think it’s important to create a culture, to create a team. Inside the pitch we’re a family and we need to protect ourselves.”
