After a goalless draw and penalty shootout win by Minnesota United in game one, game two of round one of the MLS Cup Playoffs moved to Lumen Field in Seattle on Monday night.
A Seattle win will force a game three on Saturday. A Minnesota win sends them through to the next round and ends a very long 2025 season for the Sounders.

The hosts came out on the front foot. Seattle would press early, getting a few early looks to put pressure on the Minnesota defense.
It would pay off only eight minutes in. Sounders FC midfielder Obed Vargas would drill a low shot after a weak clearance from the top of the box.
With the game in hand, the visitors did not appear to be in too big of a hurry to press matters even a goal down. Seattle would make them pay in the 21st minute. Jordan Morris got a toe poke in front of United keeper Dayne St. Clair after a sequence from Christian Roldan to Jesus Ferreira.
The goal was Morris’ 90th across all competitions as he inches toward becoming the first Sounder to reach 100 for the club.

The Sounders would get a third goal before the half. In the 41st minute Danny Musovski would convert from short range. Roldan again had got deep and a low ball across and again Ferreira was there to move it along.
After the goalless match in Saint Paul, Seattle needed goals and did not appear to be letting up with their season on the line.
However, Leads can be fragile things and Minnesota was not simply rolling over. Early in first half stoppage, United would break through. Nectarios Triantis would get on the end of a Robin Lod pass, driving a ball low past Stefan Frei.
While still in stoppage, Lod would bring the lead back to a single goal at 3-2. Suddenly, all the Seattle momentum seemed gone. United had turned a potential rout into a single goal match.

The hosts settled for a slower pace in the early second half. The single goal lead seemed fragile given the events of first half stoppage time, but the Sounders dropped back nonetheless. Minnesota still needed a goal to force at least another shootout.
The second half continued with an odd ebb and flow. The game became more physical, but neither side seemed willing to push too far.

Vargas would net his second of the match in the 86th minute. Paul Rothrock went on a long run down the left flank, getting the ball back inside to the top of the box. Vargas would drive it, pushing the margin back to two goals with only a few minutes remaining.
The Sounders would see out the match at 4-2. The result sends the series back to Saint Paul for a winner take all third match on Saturday.
