Gotham FC 3-1 Angel City FC
HARRISON, NJ–Gotham FC overcame an early deficit to defeat Angel City FC at Sports Illustrated Stadium on Sunday, 3-1, to move up in the NWSL table. Gotham have now made it back-to-back wins and are now sixth in the table and four points clear of ninth place Houston (and only three behind third place San Diego) with five matches to play. Angel City see its four-match unbeaten streak end and are three points adrift of the playoff line in tenth behind Houston on goal difference.
Angel City took the lead just two minutes in after Kennedy Fuller scored on the volley from just outside the area. Sveindis Jonsdottir had a golden chance to double the vistiors’ advantage, but shot wide. Gotham had a few chances in the first chance to level the score, but were stymied by Hannah Seabert.
Gotham would not be stymied two minutes into the second half as second half substitute Midge Purce made a run down the flank and set up Gabi Portilho for a close range finish to make it 1-1. It would be another substitute made at halftime, Rose Lavelle, who would put Gotham in front just four minutes later after Seabert misplayed a cross from Madison Hammond.
