A team of teenage American cticketers are heading to Barbados to pitch their skills against other sides whose countries are just oozing with cricketing pedigree.
Under the collective name of the NY Tri-State U19s, they are entering a tournament whose billing could not be any higher. Sir Garfield Sobers International Under-19 tournament is named after the man who many still consider the greatest all round cricketer ever to play the game.
But rather then retire and bask in those glories, Sir Gary decided to put something back, and he chose youth cricket.
So a tournament in his native Barbados became a reality.
The Americans’ first game is against Grantley Adams School at the Barbados Police stadium in Weymouth, just north east of Bridgetown.
The NY Tri-State Youth Criket Head Coach is Linden Fraser.
He told Prost:
“The above will showcase our young skillful and talented squad in all areas. It will hsowcase our ability to cope with nations that are full ICC members.
“As an associate member, when it comes to cricket, this tiurnament will also help motivate our young boys and girls within the US.”
The side itself was selected by Fraser, captain Ekansh Rastogi and one other.
