Seattle Sounders 1-0 San Diego FC
SEATTLE, WA–Jesus Ferreira finally is off the mark in Seattle. His first goal as a member of the Sounders ended up being the difference as Seattle Sounders FC defeated San Diego FC, 1-0, at Lumen Field. The win snaps San Diego’s five-match unbeaten streak while the Sounders move up to fourth, just one point behind San Diego and Minnesota while above Portland on goal difference.
Alex Roldan almost put the Sounders ahead in the third minute as he came across an errant clearance by CJ dos Santos, but dos Santos recovered enough to push the ball aside.

San Diego outshot the Sounders, 16-6, and had seven shots on target, but Stefan Frei was up to the task each time and made seven saves. The most difficult of which was a diving stop on Alex Mighten just before halftime.
The moment for the Sounders came in the 57th minute. Paul Rothrock sent a ball into the box and Ferreira collected the ball. He would turn his defender in the box and then beat dos Santos far post to give the Sounders the lead. That would be all the Sounders needed as they held on for the three points and move well within a log ja, in the West that sees just seven points separate second-place San Diego from 10th-place Austin.
Next up for the Sounders is a Sunday matinee against Minnesota United. Kickoff is at 3pm PT on Apple TV. San Diego host Austin on Saturday (7:30pm PT, Apple TV).
