There are positive signs for Hull FC fans as we hit the midseason mark

Throughout this season so far, Hull FC have had a mixed bag of results on paper. However, in comparison to last season, they show the steady improvement which has been made after a horrendous end to the 2021 campaign and one which took many by surprise.

At the start of the season, Head Coach Brett Hodgson pinpointed consistency and discipline as two key areas that his side needed to improve on if they were to have a successful season this time around. Despite the occasional blip, they have shown a major improvement in their performances across the season, with eight wins from the first fourteen matches and some impressive showings against the top sides in the division.

After a very poor performance against cross-city rivals Hull KR, recent results and performances have shown that FC are very adaptable to their style of play, with a mixture of flair and grit which has seen a major upturn in fortunes.

One thing is for sure, fans will be hoping that after Sunday’s surprise defeat against struggling Wakefield, with the hosts coming from 18-0 down to win on Golden point, this team will show its resilience and determination to react to those setbacks, which was evident after their last defeat as they bounced back with a superb victory against Wigan.

There is no doubting the quality that Hodgson has at his disposal, as a mix of experience and youth has been deployed in team selection throughout the course of the season to date. New additions such as Joe Lovodua have come to the MKM Stadium and have hit the ground running. Those in the infancy of their professional careers have also impressed so far in the shape of Connor Wynne and Denive Balmforth, who scored within 90 seconds of his debut against Toulouse in April.

These factors alongside the magic of Jake Connor with 24 assists and three tries of his own so far this season will give Black And Whites supporters real optimism as the season nears its conclusion.

It is clear to see that this FC side isn’t the finished article just yet, but there is some real promise for the future, even though it may take some stopping to knock the top two off their perch, there could be a cause for Hull to become one of the best of the rest if they are able to get rid of the “inconsistent” label from seasons gone by, as they continue to try and prove the outsiders wrong.
