Everton aiming to flee relegation scrap in Leicester City tie

Everton could push themselves further away from the relegation zone tomorrow night with a victory over an inconsistent Leicester City side.

Frank Lampard’s men are in an extremely dangerous position in the Premier League, however they come into the tie off the back of an impressive 1-0 win over Manchester United, courtesy of Anthony Gordon’s first-half strike.

The Toffees, at present, occupy 17th spot, and place three points above the managerless Burnley beneath them. Wednesday’s matchup sees them take on the Foxes, a team sat in the top half of the table by a singular point.

Leicester are currently experiencing a somewhat disappointing season compared to their last few, with many fans and pundits having questioned Brendan Rodgers’ future at the helm.

The Foxes left their last game with zero points after conceding a last minute strike to Newcastle United, their first loss in four games.

Team News

From an Everton standpoint, tomorrow’s game sees the return of Colombian international Yerry Mina to the matchday squad. The defender has undergone rehabilitation for a quadricep injury picked up in February, with Lampard telling the media “It’s about managing that, because he’s been out for a while.”

Loanee midfielder Donny Van de Beek is also set to return. The 25-year-old underwent illness and the birth of his child over the past few weeks, and it seems he will also take a place back on the bench.

Leicester City are to enter tomorrow’s matchup without the services of first-team duo Jamie Vardy and Wilfred Ndidi, who have both been out since mid-March with respective knee injuries.

Head-to-Head

The two sides are yet to play each other during the 21/22 campaign. This fixture was originally scheduled to take place on December 19th, and then on January 11th, but both were cancelled on request from Leicester due to injuries, COVID cases and AFCON affecting their squad numbers.

The Toffess are slight favourites going into tomorrow’s game, with many betting sites marking Lampard’s men with a win probability of 41% (draw: 28%, Leicester: 31%).

The last time Everton met Leicester, it was the former that walked away victorious, claiming a 2-1 win back in July 2021. The Merseyside club have since been through two managerial changes, and they will be looking to utilise their game in hand on Burnley with great effect.
