Bradford Bulls look to secure a second consecutive league victory as they take on Sheffield Eagles in the Betfred Championship

Bradford Bulls will be looking to make it two wins on the trot as they face Sheffield Eagles. 

The Bulls started their season off with a bang, comfortably running out 46-16 against Dewsbury Rams. Kieran Gill and Matty Dawson-Jones, Dec Patton, David Foggin-Johnstone, AJ Wallace and Elliot Kear were all on the scoresheet as the Yorkshire outfit claimed a well-earned victory.

Bradford Bulls Head Coach John Kear will be hoping for a similar performance going into a break from league duties next week.

Some of Kear’s new recruits were impressive in last week’s win helping the Bulls to a large victory.

Their opponents from South Yorkshire, Sheffield Eagles, will be wanting to right the wrongs of their defeat last week to Barrow Raiders. Despite tries from Ben Jones-Bishop and Anthony Thackeray, they were unable to do gain anything from the match and were beaten 22-10 in Cumbria.

This defeat was a stark contrast to last season’s opener where the Eagles beat the Bulls heavily by a score of 50-12.

The Eagles did do some impressive business ahead of the new season as they signed experienced player and former Bulls man Kris Welham from Featherstone Rovers.

For the home side, Ryan Millar could make his debut against his old club after swapping South Yorkshire for West Yorkshire in the off-season. Ben Evans also makes a return to the squad for a potential competitive debut. Aaron Murphy, Ebon Scurr, Jordan Lilley and Elliot Hall all remain sidelined for the Bulls

For the visitors, both Jones-Bishop and Thackeray will be looking to build on their tries last week from last week’s game against Barrow. The aforementioned Welham will be hoping to keep Gill quiet in an intriguing battle between the new signings.

Head to head

As mentioned above, these two did meet at the start of last season when the Eagles beat the Bulls heavily to kick off the season.

Despite that, the Bulls have the upper hand over tomorrow’s visitors as they have recorded 10 wins against the Eagles in the all-time head-to-head.

Mark Ashton’s men have only beaten the Bulls five times but are boosted by their recent success against Bradford and will be using that as fuel heading into this game.
