The Russian driver lead from start to finish as he was able to get his first win of the F2 season. He finished ahead of Carlin’s Dan Ticktum in second and UNI-Virtuosi’s Guanyu Zhou in third.
Jehan Daruvala slipped down from second as he finished in fourth with the quick Theo Pourchaire securing his sixth consecutive points finish with fifth place. Ralph Boschung came sixth ahead of Marcus Armstrong in seventh, Juri Vips in eighth, David Beckmann in ninth and Bent Viscaal in 10th.
Christian Lundgaard narrowly missed out on reverse grid pole as the Danish driver finished 11th ahead of the two MP Motorsport’s of Richard Verschoor and Lirim Zendeli in 12th and 13th.
Felipe Drugovich came 14th after his 10-second penalty was applied for causing a collision. The Brazilian finished ahead of Matteo Nannini in 15th, Roy Nissany in 16th, Guilherme Samaia in 17th and Marino Sato in 18th.
Starting Grid
Robert Shwartzman secured reverse grid pole position after qualifying tenth with the Russian joined by Jehan Daruvala on the front row.
Guanyu Zhou started behind the Prema in third as Ralph Boschung was alongside the Chinese driver in fourth. The DAMS of Marcus Armstrong was next on the grid in fifth ahead of Dan Ticktum in sixth, Theo Pourchaire in seventh, Oscar Piastri in eighth, Juri Vips in ninth and Liam Lawson in 10th.
Felipe Drugovich qualified 11th with David Beckmann in 12th, Bent Viscaal in 13th and Richard Verschoor in 14th. After a grid drop, Christian Lundgaard started in 15th ahead of Matteo Nannini in 16th and Jack Aitken in 17th, who was another driver to take a grid drop.
Lirim Zendeli started 18th with Alessio Deledda in 19th and Marino Sato and Guilherme Samaia in 20th and 21st respectively after grid drops. Roy Nissany started 22nd after he did not compete in qualifying.
As It Happened
Good reaction time from Shwartzman saw the Russian cover off the good launch that Daruvala got as the Prema had the lead into turn one.
Lawson went into the wall at turn two as the New Zealander retired from the race. The HWA’s of Jack Aitken and Alessio Deledda were also forced to retire from the race alongside Oscar Piastri after he collided with Lawson on the opening lap.
The full Safety Car was subsequently released as Lawson’s car was stranded and needed to be recovered by the marshalls to allow the drivers to get back up and running under green flags again.
After we returned racing, Shwartzman led the drivers over the line as he held the lead into turn one. Vips was able to overtake Pourchaire into turn two as the Frenchman was left vulnerable with his cold tyres.
Drugovich was awarded a 10-second time penalty after it was deemed he caused the collision that saw Lawson and Piastri retire from the race.
Ticktum was on a charge as he made his way up to fourth as he overtook Boschung and Armstrong in the matter of a few laps.
Pourchaire made amends on losing the position to Vips as the Frenchman made his way back up to seventh with the ART now hunting the Campos of Boschung in sixth.
Daruvala fell down the order as the Indian driver dropped from second down to fourth. Zhou and Ticktum were able to get ahead of the Carlin as the duo tried to charge down leader Shwartzman.
At the halfway point, Shwartzman led the race comfortably with the Russian ahead of Zhou in second and Ticktum in third. Daruvala was fourth, Armstrong in fifth, Boschung in sixth, Pourchaire in seventh, Vips in eighth, Drugovich in ninth and Beckmann in 10th.
The man on the charge, Dan Ticktum, moved his Carlin car as the Brit made up four positions to get himself up to second.
Pourchaire was also able to make up two positions at the end as he moved up to fifth after overtaking both Armstrong and Boschung.
The Campos of Boschung was able to follow the ART past the DAMS of Armstrong as the Swiss driver finished in sixth with the New Zealander in seventh.
It was Robert Shwartzman who lead from start to finish as the Russian earned his first victory of the season with Dan Ticktum finishing in second ahead of Championship leader Guanyu Zhou in third.
What’s Next
The Trident of Bent Viscaal finished in 10th after the penalty was applied to Felipe Drugovich allowing the rookie to start from the front row for the first time in F2 in Sprint Race two.
David Beckmann joins the Dutchman at the front as the German starts from second as he looks to earn his first points finish since the second Sprint Race in Bahrain.
