Salford Red Devil’s host unbeaten Wigan Warriors

Wigan Warriors look to continue their flawless start to the Betfred Super League, with a trip to Salford Red Devil’s on Saturday afternoon at the AJ Bell Stadium.

The Warriors have won six from six so far this campaign with their last outing ending in a 16-30 away win against Leigh Centurions. A masterclass from full back Bevan French saw the warriors come from behind to maintain their 100% record and get the victory on derby day, which left Leigh still without a win from their opening six games.

As for the home side, Salford have had a disappointing start to the campaign, winning just one of their first six games. Last time out saw them lose 28-0 to league leaders St Helens, who are the only side along with the Warriors to still have a 100% record in the league this season.

As for the two sides, Wigan will likely still be without Liam Marshall who is believed to be nearing a return to the side. They will be withoout prop forward Tony Club who is currently serving an eight-match ban for a Grade F charge.

Salford on the other hand are without Wigan born Joe Burgess, who came through the academy at the DW Stadium making 129 appearances for his hometown club, scoring 107 tries. Burgess is out with an ankle injury and will be joined on the sideline by Dan Sarginson, who is also a former Warriors player. He received a three-match ban for a Grade C dangerous throw in the thrashing by St Helens.

Warriors head coach Adrian Lam praised his side’s second-half performance against Leigh, when speaking to the club’s official website, explaining it was ‘back to who we want to be’. It was also the first time in 14 months that fans had been able to watch a Super League game live, with Lam glad that his team managed to overcome the pressure and ‘get out with a win’.

The Red Devils will get their first chance to play in front of their own spectators for well over a year, after being away at St Helens on Monday.

Salford head coach Richard Marshall will be looking for a reaction after the 28-0 loss and there would no better reaction than to impress the Salford fans on their return with a win against the unbeaten Wigan Warriors. But Wigan will be keen to show that they can rise against the pressure of a noisy AJ Bell Stadium and maintain their 100% record for the 7th game week running.
