After his brace against Everton on Friday night, Harry Kane overtook Robbie Fowler to become the seventh-highest leading goalscorer in Premier League history.
Now with Thierry Henry in his sights, the question is, how many more goals can Kane score, and more importantly, will they be in a Tottenham shirt?
Record breaker
As Spurs travelled to Goodison Park on Friday night they dropped more points and further distanced themselves from Champions League qualification as they drew 2-2 with an Everton team also with European hopes.
Harry Kane opened the scoring in the 26th minute. The ball fell to him inside the six-yard box and the Englishman made no mistake as he dispatched a low, powerful finish past Jordan Pickford in the Everton goal.
Often has been the case with Spurs in recent years, their defensive frailties let them down again as just four minutes after Kane’s opener they conceded a penalty as Sergio Reguilón brought down James Rodriguez inside the box.
Gylfi Sigurdsson stepped up and made no mistake from the spot with Tottenham’s lead lasting just a mere four minutes.
Kane, who at times during the match looked a frustrated figure, dropped deep to get on the ball as he often does and did his best to create chances for the likes of Heung-min Son and Lucas Moura when the Brazillian came on.
Shortly after the hour mark, it was the Toffees who took the lead. Sigurdsson grabbed his second of the night as the Icelandic midfielder finished off what was a fantastic breakaway goal with a great first-time strike from the edge of the box.
Tottenham, who in previous weeks have let games slip away after being in leading positions, were in a similar situation at Goodison.
Sigurdsson had turned this game on its head and Spurs looked to captain Kane to get them out of trouble once more.
Six minutes later their prayers had been answered. The Englishmen capitalised on a mix up in the Everton defence as the England skipper made no mistake levelling the score at 2-2.
This equaliser was Kane’s 164th Premier League goal, meaning the striker had overtaken Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler in the all-time leading goalscorers chart.
An incredible feat that took him to seventh on the list. Next in his sights is Arsenal great Thierry Henry who sits on a total of 175 goals.
It wasn’t all rosy for Kane though as his Spurs team dropped more points, whilst also in the final minutes of the game he was dealt a blow as he went down holding his ankle.
For many years now Kane has suffered numerous injuries to his ankle and unfortunately, this looked to be a reoccurrence of that.
The Tottenham captain hobbled off the pitch and looked in real pain, possibly putting him in doubt for their crucial Carabao Cup Final encounter with Manchester City next Sunday.
What next for Kane?
Only last week, The Athletic reported that Harry Kane was running out of patience with Spurs and even claimed that Kane would push for a move away from North London if Spurs failed to qualify for the Champions League for a second year running.
Frustrated by a lack of trophies, the 27-year-old is reportedly ready to tell the Tottenham hierarchy he wants to leave this summer.
Kane has never hidden his ambition to win trophies, but as recent results at Spurs have taken a turn for the worse, including the horror show in Zagreb as they dramatically crashed out of the Europa League, patience is wearing thin for the striker.
Despite having the chance to win his first trophy with Spurs next Sunday in the Carabao Cup Final against Manchester City, albeit he may now be injured, Kane sees his chances of winning a major trophy at Spurs diminishing year on year.
For the first time in his career, the Englishmen has begun to see his future elsewhere.
So where could he realistically go? The early frontrunners are both Manchester clubs as City and United are rumoured to be interested, however, it would all depend on if Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is willing to negotiate.
It could reach a stage where Kane is priced out of a move away from Spurs if Levy is playing hardball, but at 27 and arguably in his prime years, the striker feels as though he has taken Tottenham as far as they can go.
Manchester City seems the obvious option, especially considering that leading club goalscorer Sergio Aguero is set to leave at the end of the season. Whilst the serial winning manager that is Pep Guardiola has referred to Kane in the past as ‘Incredible’, it seems like a match made in heaven.
With Spurs currently sat in seventh position, five points off West Ham in fourth, Champions League qualification is still achievable, however, they need an almost faultless run-in as they will need to win most of the remaining six if they are to stand a chance.
With so much uncertainty surrounding Spurs at the minute, it would seem that this story isn’t going anywhere and could lead long into the summer as England and Tottenham captain Harry Kane looks to take his career to the next level.
