Christian Lundgaard did not ‘expect to be in the top three’ as the Dane qualified second with Guanyu Zhou pole position and Felipe Drugovich in third for Sunday’s Feature Race.

Speaking exclusively to Prost International’s Adrian Kita, pole-sitter Guanyu Zhou, second place Christian Lundgaard and third place Felipe Drugovich all had their say on the first qualifying session of the season and how important a strong start to the Championship is.

Question to all three drivers- How important will it be for the three of you to have a bright start to the F2 season?

Guanyu Zhou:

“Yeak I think every start in every Championship is important. A good start means you are able to gain positions in the Standins and in the races as a whole.

“Last season, we saw Mick [Schumacher] have flying starts in races, overtaking sometimes as many as four cars whis is very impressive.

“Hopefully, I won’t make any mistakes and keep my positions after every start I do to get the best out of my car and to finish in the best places possible.”

Christian Lundgaard:

“It will be important to keep up the momentim from quali today and I think with the pace we have we need to move slightly forward.

“Being consistent throughout the three races will be key, but to start the season like this I did not expect.

“To be in the top three, I can only be happy and focus on the three races ahead this weekend and maximise the performances.”

Felipe Drugovich:

“For sure it is encouraging coming into a new team for me and I think there’s some things that I’ve still got to get used to.

“It’s ony the third time I have used the option tyre on this car, so everything is still quite new for me here and I am still getting used to things.

“I am really happy and starting the season in this way with so much pace makes me really confident for the season ahead.”

The drivers will now compete in two Sprint Races on Saturday which will see the aforementioned trio of Zhou, Lundgaard and Drugovich start in P8, P9 and P10 for the first Sprint Race.

Zhou will start in pole position in Sunday’s Feature Race with Lundgaard alongside him and his UNI-Virtuosi teammate behind him in P3.

Many new changes in the sport this season, but 17 more points are up for grabs as a thrilling weekend has only begun and many more twists and turns are on there way.
