Leicester City face Manchester United as they look to build on the win against Spurs and stop the in-form Red Devils

A pivotal clash on Boxing Day sees the in-form Red Devils travel down to Leicester to face the Foxes in a clash that could see either side drop all the way down to eighth with a loss if results go against them.

On Super Sunday last weekend, the Foxes were able to emerge victorious and return to winning ways after their 2-0 loss to Everton the game before.

The home side for this enormous Boxing Day fixture travelled to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to face Spurs, who had the chance of going top of the Premier League if they beat the current Premier League champions, Liverpool. The Reds won the game 2-1 after a last-minute Roberto Firmino header.

Spurs’ early possession stakes saw them in the game until a penalty was given against the hosts. Serge Aurier barged Wesley Fofana inside the penalty box as Craig Pawson went to have a look at the pitchside VAR monitor he awarded the spot-kick which Jamie Vardy dispatched to give the Foxes the lead going into half-time.

Leicester looked to have doubled their lead three minutes into the second half. James Justin played a ball over the top of the Spurs defence which James Maddison latched onto and fired the ball past Hugo Lloris. After another intervention from VAR, the decision went against the Foxes as Maddison was narrowly offside.

Ten minutes later it was delight for the East Midlands side. A fantastic cross by Marc Albrighton was met by the head of Jamie Vardy. The striker headed the ball goalwards as Toby Alderweireld looked to clear the ball he couldn’t sort his footing a directed the ball into his own goal.

The Foxes held onto their two-goal lead until the end and ran out as 2-0 victors gaining three points and jumping into second place in the Premier League.

Manchester United currently occupy third place and sit just one point behind Leicester with a game in hand. The Red Devils have been in hot form and are unbeaten in the Premier League since their narrow 1-0 loss to Arsenal back at the start of November.

Their last match in the Premier League was a very successful one as they welcomed Leeds United to Old Trafford for the first time in 16 years.

Scott McTominay set off the hosts on the right path as his quick three-minute brace saw him become the first player to score two goals within three minutes of a Premier League match.

Bruno Fernandes added a third as United ran away with the game with clear dominance. The Portuguese midfielder’s goal in the 20th minute saw the Red Devils 3-0 up and that turned to 4-0 as Victor Lindelof scored in the 37th minute.

Leeds captain, Liam Cooper, was able to get one goal back for the Yorkshire side as they looked to gain some momentum in the match and try and pose a serious threat.

In the second half, Daniel James added a goal of his own to make it 5-1 and then minutes later Fernandes added to his goalscoring tally for the match with his second and United’s sixth in the 70th minute.

Stuart Dallas managed to score a second goal for Leeds, but it was only a consolation strike as United ran out 6-2 victors and moved into third.

The Foxes have not beaten Manchester United since 2014 when they returned to the Premier League for the first time since 2004.

What a thriller it was at the King Power as it featured eight goals and was Leicester’s second win of the season and the first time they recorded back-to-back wins as they beat Stoke City 1-0 a week earlier.

It was United than sprinted out the blocks as Robin van Persie and Angel di Maria took the away side into a quick 2-0 lead after 16 minutes.

A minute later, Leonardo Ulloa pulled a goal back for the then Premier League new boys. Ander Herrera added a third for United as they restored their two-goal cushion and looked to have put it beyond the Foxes in the 57th minute.

The East Midlands side did not give up and two goals in quick succession from David Nugent and Esteban Cambiasso put the game level at 3-3.

Jamie Vardy scored to make it 4-3 and then Ulloa set the game at 5-3 in Leicester’s favour after an 83rd minute penalty sealed an important and memorable three points.

The last encounter between the sides saw United win 2-0 at the King Power Stadium back in July. Bruno Fernandes and Jesse Lingard second half strikes gave the Red Devils an important three points in their charge for a top three place in the Premier League last season.
