National League round-up: Torquay miss chance to go five points clear at the top

Torquay United missed out on the chance to move five points clear at the top of the Vanarama National League on Saturday after being held to a 1-1 draw by Boreham Wood at Plainmoor.

Danny Wright gave the hosts the lead with a header, but Wood responded on the stroke of half-time when Sorba Thomas netted. The Gulls were dealt a blow when Adam Randell was shown a second yellow card. But the ten men held on for a point.

Aldershot Town made it back-to-back wins in the National League after a 2-1 win against Altrincham at Moss Lane.

Toby Edser and Chike Kandi put the shots 2-0 up. Tom Peers pulled a goal back for Altrincham with a couple of minutes to go, but the visitors held on to claim all three points.

Josh Davison’s 89th minute goal earned Woking a share of the spoils against Yeovil Town at the Laithwaite Community Stadium on Saturday.

The visitors struck first when on-loan Northampton Town striker Matt Warburton scored for the Glovers on the stroke of half time. Both sides missed penalties before Davison’s late strike for the Cards.

Bromley maintained their unbeaten away record after seeing off Barnet 3-1 at the Hive.

Joseph Kizzi gave the visitors the lead after 12 minutes. James Alabi doubled Bromley’s advantage. In the 57th minute Michael Cheek put Bromley in a commanding position. The hosts scored a consolation goal through Michael Petrasso but is was too little too late.

Sam Barratt continued his goal scoring spree with a second half double as Maidenhead came from behind to beat Chesterfield 2-1.

Scott Boden put the hosts in front on the half-hour mark before Barratt’s brace secured Maidenhead’s fifth win in a row and Barratt’s ninth goal of the season.

Isaac Olaofe scored a hat trick as Sutton United moved up to third in the league after thrashing Kings Lynn Town 5-1.

The on-loan Millwall forward scored after 25, 53 and 69 minutes to help Sutton to their fifth win in six league games.

Eastleigh’s home National League game against Hartlepool was abandoned at half-time after torrential rain. At the time the referee called the game off it was goalless.

The game between Wealdstone and Dover Athletic was postponed due to Covid-19 protocols.

Tuesday’s game between Weymouth and Yeovil has been called off following positive coronavirus tests.
