Liverpool secure comeback win over West Ham to continue title charge

Goals from Mohammed Salah and Sadio Mane ensured Liverpool’s 18th consecutive Premier League win, a run equalling Manchester City’s feats of last season.

It looked as though it would be another routine evening for the Reds when they took the lead on nine minutes, Georginio Wijnaldum heading in a Trent Alexander-Arnold cross which Łukasz Fabiański will feel he should have comfortably kept out.

West Ham responded however and Liverpool’s Alisson made an error of his own when he failed to prevent Issa Diop’s header finding the net from a Robert Snodgrass corner.

1-1 it stayed at half time and things got better for the Hammers after the interval, Pablo Fornals turning in a Declan Rice cross low past Alisson to give the away team the lead.

The comeback started 15 minutes later and West Ham stopper Fabianski was at fault once again.

Andy Robertson’s low delivery into the area found Salah, who hooked the ball towards goal and through the legs of the Polish ‘keeper to tie the scores.

The turnaround was complete on 81 minutes when Joe Gomez’ deflected shot fell into the path of Alexander-Arnold.

The young Englishman then lifted the ball over Fabianki into the area where Mane was on hand to lift the ball into an empty net.

Liverpool go 22 points clear at the top of the Premier League summit, West Ham remain 18th.
